Cafe Pessoa Chill Out
Set in the hip barrio of Ruzafa, trees line the corner of this mellow terraza that sits facing an elegant fin de siècle building that has housed cocktail bar ‘Café Pessoa’ since 2008. The co-owner tells us that there are many stories concerning the birth of the cocktail; one of them concerns a tavern in San Francisco that tended to decorate their drinks with the feather of a cock rooster, giving the name to what we now know as cocktails, literally “tails of a cock rooster”
They have a fine selection of liqueurs and juices. The fruit is noticeable fresh and we must not forget their principal ingredient…passion! All of this makes ‘Café Pessoa’ a reference point as a cocktail bar in the city. They have an ample list of gins, rums, whiskies and shots. Here, your pleasurable evenings slowly slip into the night with ease. The vintage-style long lamps emit a warm orange-ember light that makes you feel relaxed and at home. You can also try their Portuguese ‘vino verde’
The name of the bar is a homage to Portugal’s most famous poet and writer, Fernando Pessoa. It reflects the cultural tastes of the Portuguese brothers Ricardo and Rogerio who run this place, who also grew up in the capital of Lisbon. At Café Pessoa, you will find painting and photography exhibitions, acoustic concerts and recitals every month. The music soundtrack included Bossa Nova, fado, jazz and more modern sounds. The last type we went, we enjoyed listening to Brazilian Tropicalia by ‘Os Mutantes’ in the background. The clientele is informed, ranging from couples in their late twenties to bohemians in their sixties. La Asociación Espai Tuga forms the bridge between Portuguese and Valencian cultures. Café Pessoa is their base for members and guests including intercambio language nights and other activities.
