WHAT’S GOING ON IN VALENCIA THIS WEEKEND?

There’s never a dull moment in Valencia, and this weekend is no exception. With a constant slew of new foods to try, sights to discover, music to hear, and parties to attend, there is no reason to stay at home. Especially with events like the Feria de Julio going on, The Phantom of the Opera showing at the Palau de les Artes, and the Viveros Concerts running for more than half of the month of July, you can join in the fun no matter what your interests lead you to. Here are just a couple of ideas of how you can get out and experience everything Valencia has to offer this weekend.

Friday, 4th July

The Feria de Julio continues with events for children, adults, and everyone. At 7 pm, there will be children’s workshops as well as a small disco at Plaza Marqués de Valterra, Perellonet. This will be followed by a performance by the Valencia Orchestra with Pancho Flores at 7:30 pm in the Iturbi Room. At 8 pm, the San Cristobal festival begins with an exhibition in Shed 2 of the Port. Then, from 9 pm to 1 am, the Parque del Oeste pool will be open for Caribbean Night. Meanwhile, at 10 pm, there will be the pre-selection for next year’s Fallas at the Palau Gardens in the North and South Pavilions. Also at 10 is “La Pelona”, a musical performance at Marqués de Valterra Square. Pick and choose which events you want to go to, or go to all of them! Whatever you do, you won’t want to miss this night of celebration and culture.

Saturday, 5th July

Get up bright and early on Saturday to make sure you don’t miss Valencia’s lineup of activities. It starts at 10 am with a procession in honour of San Cristobal, leading into the festival of San Cristobal at noon by Shed 2 of the Port. The festivities continue all day, then lead into the Viveros Concert for the evening. The Viveros Concerts happen on 18 days in July from July 1st to the 25th, featuring 11 national and 7 international bands who bring flavors of pop, rock, flamenco, salsa, and urban music to the Viveros Gardens. This Saturday will showcase the Hakuna Music Group at the Jardines de Real, who will play at 10 pm. They will be followed by DJ Boccachico on the Ayora Garden Esplanade at 11 pm. To end the night, there will be a fireworks show in the Town Square at 11:59 pm.

Sunday, 6th July

Catch a bit of a break on Sunday morning to rest up after all the festivities of Friday and Saturday, but when the evening comes, enjoy a café con leche and lace up your shoes for more exciting events. The Feria de Julio continues with a family magic show at the Mercado De Abastos, Arrancapins, at 7:30 pm, and more senior Fallas pre-selection in the Palau Gardens at 9 pm. The Viveros Concert of the night will be a performance by Rosario + Julia Martínez at the Jardines del Real at 9 pm, followed by an improv show by Jesús Manzano and Miguel Moraga at the Improv Theater at the Mercado de Abastos.

And, if none of these are catching your eye and you’re looking for something different, experience The Phantom of the Opera at Palau de Les Arts. The touring company will be putting on the show in Valencia from the 4th of July to the 20th, with ticket prices starting at €32. Shows for the whole weekend include Friday at 8:30 pm, Saturday at 5 pm and 9 pm, and Sunday at 5 and 9 pm as well. Enjoy this phenomenal show, which is known as the longest running show on Broadway to date, right here in Valencia.
