BEN VAUGHN QUINTET PLAY ‘16 TONELADAS’ ON 28 AUGUST!

Ben Vaughn began releasing records in the mid-1980s, moving to California in 1995 to work in the audiovisual industry, scoring films such as “Swingers” and TV series such as “Those Wonderful Seventies” and “Martian Stuff”. He has released some twenty albums under his own name, including one recorded entirely inside his favourite car (a beat-up 1965 American Rambler), and has produced countless records for other artists: Arthur Alexander, Charlie Feathers, Alex Chilton, Nancy Sinatra, Ween, Mark Olson, Barrence Whitfield, The Straitjackets, etc. For more than a decade Ben Vaughn has hosted and presented, from a secret location in the Mojave Desert, The Many Moods of Ben Vaughn, a radio show that can be heard on two dozen FM stations across the United States, as well as through podcasts (iTunes, PodBay, etc.). For these Spanish concerts, Ben Vaughn has his four loyal companions in the Ben Vaughn Quintet.

Not just any five guys or mercenaries hired for a gig, Ben has played with GUS CORDOVOX since 1983, MIKE VOGELMANN since 1988, and SETH BAER since 1990. CARLCRABTREE would thus be the “newcomer”, having only been in the band for 20 years! “I love playing with the Quintet. We don’t have to think about anything when we get together, the music just comes together.

As far as I know we’ve never played the same set-list twice, and if we have, it’s purely by accident,” says Vaughn. The artist has visited our country several times, both on his own and with bands formed for the occasion, but this time he will do it with his real group, with which he feels really supported and with which he can display all his eclecticism without complexes and in an uninhibited way. Pièce de Résistance (2017) is the latest album by the quintet of this great man of music called Ben Vaughn.

On it you can find many of the things that have made Ben a lauded rock &roll wordsmith, an admired songwriter, a sought-after producer, and a refreshing entertainer. Just before the pandemic, he released Here Comes Trouble, released by the Spanish label FOLC RECORDS. It’s a limited edition 7″ vinyl, an EP “from the old days” with four tracks without waste. “I’m Just Sayin'”, “Tape A Nickel To The Tonearm”, “My Mind Ain’t Right”, and the title track “Here Comes Trouble”.
