‘LO QUE EL TANGO SE LLEVÓ’ PREMIERED AT TEATRE TALIA ON 16 DECEMBER!

València paid tribute to Tango on its International day in December with great events where music, song and dance were its protagonists. Every December 11th, the International Day of Tango is celebrated in honour of one of its most iconic figures, Carlos Gardel. A date that pays tribute to this Rioplatense genre, declared by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and that therefore places it in the main scene of world culture.

València, as a city renowned for its latent artistic life, and its appreciation for international cultural expressions, joins this celebration every year too. By doing this, it is allowing the realization of different events in its most emblematic places that combine music and dance. This is for the enjoyment of a large public following projects presented for over 20 years by the cultural pioneer Analía Bueti, invested with the Argentina Country Brand for all the work of dissemination of Tango via different projects.

Thus, on Wednesday 11 December there was an emotional tribute in front of the mural (the only one in Spain) of Carlos Gardel located in the riverbed by Paseo de la Pechina, joining this act to the countless tributes that took place around the world in front of his image.

On Sunday 15th December from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Centre del Carmen, hosted once again in the beautiful and historic Refectory Hall, the MILONGA of the INTERNATIONAL TANGO DAY, with free admission, under the proposal of Analía Bueti in collaboration with the reputed Club del Tango de la Comunidad Valenciana that has been transmitting the passion for this dance for more than 25 years through its weekly milongas and its international meetings.

The celebrations culminated on Monday 16th December with the premiere of the musical show ‘LO QUE EL TANGO SE LLEVÓ’ at the emblematic ‘Teatre Talia’ in Valencia, based on an original idea by Analía Bueti and created and directed by the famous Argentine musician Juan Esteban Cuacci, both parts of the cast, which was completed by the bandoneon player Javier Cárdenas, and the dance couples, Débora Godoy and Carlos Guevara and Juana Escribano and David Suárez.

This show was part of the worldwide tributes to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Alfredo Lepera, the great long-time collaborator of Carlos Gardel, who left us the classic tangos that have endured through time. Undoubtedly “a great contribution to the cultural heritage of Valencia”, as Analía Bueti told us, who highlights her work for the Tango in the city, linking her projects with figures and emblematic places of the city to integrate both cultures and thus mutually enrich each other, making it clear in each project that there are many things that unite Valencia with Rioplatense culture.

Indeed, Teatre Talia premiered the musical show LO QUE EL TANGO SE LLEVÓ to an enthusiastic full house on Monday, December 16th.

An extended celebration of the annual December 11th International Day of Tango, this original work is a concept by Analía Bueti and created, directed by the famed Argentine musician Juan Esteban Cuacci. Both in the cast along with bandoneon player Javier Cárdenas. Finally, dance couples Débora Godoy and Carlos Guevara along with Juana Escribano and David Suárez completed the performance.

“València paid tribute to Tango on its International day with great events where music, song and dance will be its protagonists.”

The dance and music was breathtakingly sensual and expressive, stirring up emotion and romantic imagery. With music that is so distinctly original to this genre, it is timeless. Each dance played in staged motifs set in an opulent setting harkening when the dance was refined, faraway from its origins in the shadowy side of society.

Analía Bueti’s singing could raise the hairs on our arms as her voice would express a full range of emotion from the pain of heartbreak to the intoxication of love. Bueti has a long tradition performing Tango in València and is treasured here.

Set in this historical theatre added to the immersion of the evening, as one can feel transported to another time and place. Next time Bueti’s Tango dance productions return to the stage in València, don’t miss out.
