MASSAMAGRELL SEALS A HISTORIC TWINNING BETWEEN TWO GREAT PILGRIMAGE ROUTES: THE HOLY GRAIL AND SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

A union has been formed between the ‘Cultural Association Friends of the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela of Sagunto’ and the ‘Cultural Association The Way of the Holy Grail.’ This week, in the Town Hall of Massamagrell, an event full of symbolism took place between the Friends of the Way of St. James Association of Sagunto and the Cultural Association The Way of the Holy Grail, in the presence of Mr. Miquel Bailach Luengo, Councillor for Tourism of the town. This meeting marks the beginning of a collaboration aimed at enriching the cultural and spiritual heritage of these two historic routes.

A bridge between emblematic routes

Both associations join forces to enhance the value of two great routes: The Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago), one of the most recognised pilgrimages in the world, and The Way of the Holy Grail, which connects significant places until it culminates in Valencia, the custodian of the Holy Chalice. This twinning seeks not only to strengthen the cultural ties between the two routes, but also to promote joint initiatives that encourage sustainable tourism and the preservation of their historical wealth.

During the ceremony, Mr. Francisco Bono Centelles, president of the Association Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Sagunto, “It is a crucial step to offer pilgrims an enriching experience both spiritually and culturally”. For her part, Dr. Ana Mafé García, president of the Cultural Association The Way of the Holy Grail, “We join forces to turn these paths into transformative journeys that transcend borders”.

Commitment to the future of our common heritage

The agreement includes projects such as joint signposting on the sections shared by both routes, the international promotion of these destinations and the development of infrastructure, such as hostels for pilgrims. In addition, cultural and educational activities will be carried out to raise awareness of the rich history of both routes.

A call to the pilgrim community

This twinning symbolizes the union not only of two routes, but of the people who travel them. From Massamagrell, pilgrims, tourists and citizens are invited to discover the unique legacy of these roads and be part of this new stage of collaboration.

 A meeting that transcends borders

Both associations have highlighted the importance of this link, which unites the paths of the Holy Grail, with its route culminating in Valencia, and the Camino de Santiago, known worldwide for its spirituality and historical legacy. This twinning aims not only to strengthen the recognition of these routes, but also to develop joint projects that benefit both pilgrims and cultural tourism in the Valencian Community and Aragon. Dr. Ana Mafé García, president of the Cultural Association The Way of the Holy Grail, “This twinning is a sign of the power of union to preserve and disseminate our cultural and spiritual heritage”. For his part, Don Francisco Bono Centelles, president of the Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela Association of Sagunto, “Both roads share universal values that know no borders, and together, we can offer pilgrims a unique and transformative experience.”

 Shared projects and objectives

The agreement includes initiatives such as:

Joint signage on the stretches shared by both routes, using characteristic elements that reinforce their identity.

Promotion of sustainable tourism through the development of pilgrim hostels and cultural activities.

Joint promotion to increase the international visibility of both routes.

Cultural and educational collaborations, such as conferences and talks highlighting the historical and spiritual value of these routes.

 An invitation to the community

The associations call on pilgrims, tourists and citizens to join in discovering the richness and uniqueness of these twinned routes. This event symbolises the union of two historic routes and, beyond that, of the people who walk them.
