Sonia Latorre manages to paint from the soul and thus transfer her place in the world to the exhibition at the Casino de Agricultura. ‘My place in the world’, between two villages surrounded by vineyards, cereals, scrubland and forests of pine and holm oak, is shown through mixed techniques and acrylics on canvas, paper and board. This is Sonia Latorre’s proposal for the Casino Rock space in the Casino de Agricultura. The Valencian painter manages to transport the spectator to dreamlike landscapes because “I paint from the soul, for me painting is a vital necessity, which allows me to transmit what I feel at each moment, impossible to express in words”.
Throughout 37 works of different formats, the visitor will walk between sinuous lines through magical places and infinite thoughts in which the clear light of the summer sun coexists with the nostalgia of the cold & cloudy days of winter and enjoy the borders dotted with impossible knots and trees that cast elongated shadows. “These are the ones that catch my eye on my morning walks”, explains the artist, who adds: “In the midst of this wonderful inspiration, this series of paintings is born, some in acrylic to reflect the intense colour of the Mediterranean light, and others in mixed technique with bitumen, capturing that atmosphere full of nostalgia, calm and peace”.
Sonia Latorre was born in the mid-1970s, trained as a Technical Engineer at the ETS de Topografía y Geodesia of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (1992-1995). Her career as an artist runs parallel to her professional experience, although as she explains: “At the age of eleven, accompanied by my grandfather, with my first Christmas money, I bought painting books, a case of oil paintings and that’s when it all began. Since then, this passion has accompanied me in the most important stages of my life, my youth, during my engineering studies, and later in motherhood”.
Throughout these years she has made sketches in acrylic and pencil, studies of perspective and colour, series of conceptual art, acrylic prints, studies of volume in gel plate and monotype prints, as well as digital works that derived in surrealist forms.
