Quique Dacosta, a three Michelin star restaurant in Dénia has been positioned as the 14th best restaurant in the world. Prestigious International list, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, has ‘celebrated the richness and diversity of the world’s culinary landscape since 2002,’ with a panel of 1,080 culinary experts and audited voting procedure and have recently positioned Quique Dacosta in the top 15.
“We are very grateful to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants for this recognition and very happy to represent our territory, Dénia, the Valencian Community and Spain in a sector where there is a very high level throughout the world,” stated the chef, Quique Dacosta, in response to the award. Dacosta was born in Extremaduran, but grew up in Valencia, and started his career as a chef in 1986. He was only 14 when he started getting lost in French culinary books and working in the kitchen, highlighting the dedication and commitment that has always been apparent for Dacosta. Quique Dacosta uses local products as a leitmotif of his work, but with a glimpse into the cultures and cuisines of other countries to enrich his expertise.
It is not only The World’s 50 Best Restaurants which have recognised the gastronomic wonder of Quique Dacosta. It was Dacosta’s ‘cubalibre de foie-gras’ in 2001 that brought him significant attention within the Spanish culinary scene and ever since, the success has been overflowing. Receiving three Michelin stars is already a profound achievement, which Dacoste had been awarded by 2012, but the restaurant holds many other awards. For example, being labelled as one of the best restaurants in Europe according to Opinionated About Dining in 2012 and 2013, awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts from the Spanish government, and being designated as the best businessman in the Spanish restaurant industry by the Spanish Royal Academy of Gastronomy.
Dacosta has also been artistically collaborating with other international chefs. As a prelude to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants gala, Dacosta and Spanish-American chef José Andrés came together to cook a menu for eight people at the restaurant ‘Bazaar Meat by José Andrés’ in Las Vegas. The chefs produced a menu for the occasion including paella cooked over a wood fire.
Quique Dacosta’s menu provides a ‘unique, gastronomically imaginative, innovatively cutting- edge sensory experience.’ The new gastronomic proposal ‘For the Love of Art II’ alludes to the fact that Dacosta does what he does because of his love for art, and cooking is more than just producing food but also a passion, craft and a language. Giving the Dénia based restaurant a visit should be on the bucket list of every fine dining enthusiast!
