The British band The Psychedelic Furs will start a five-concert tour this coming Sunday, September 8th in Seville (Sala Custom), which will also take them to Valencia (MYA) on the 10th, Bilbao (Kafe Antzokia; sold out) on the 12th, Madrid (Sala But) on the 13th and Barcelona (Razzmatazz 2) on the 14th. Apart from their sold out Bilbao show, there are very few tickets available for the other four concerts.
Formed in 1977 in London’s post-punk scene and led by vocalist and songwriter Richard Butler and his brother Tim, the bass player, the Furs quickly developed into one of the most important bands on university and alternative radio. Their music went through several phases, from austere art rock beginnings to a move towards new wave and hard rock. Along the way they achieved a flurry of big hits, with songs like “Love My Way”, “Pretty In Pink”, “Heaven”, “The Ghost In You” and “Heartbreak Beat”. In their career we find eight studio albums, from their eponymous debut in 1980 to their latest release, “Made Of Rain” (2020), which broke a recording silence of almost thirty years (their previous LP, “World Outside” from 1991) and was very well received by the public (second best of their career in terms of British charts) and the critics (it entered many lists of best albums of the year, among them those of Mojo, Uncut, Classic Pop, Good Morning America and Vive Le Rock).
Their live show continues to be dazzling and with it they reverberate and resonate the profound influence that their career has left on post-punk, in their case the more bittersweet factor, the one where rawness meets romanticism. The line-up is as follows: Richard Butler (vocals); Tim Butler (bass); Rico Good (guitar); Amanda Kramer (keyboards) and Zachary Alford (drums).
