CHICAGO BLUES LEGEND ‘JOHN PRIMER’ PLAYS ‘16 TONELADAS’ ON 20 MARCH!

John Primer has been a member of such essential bands in the history of Chicago Blues as Muddy Waters Band, Willie Dixon’s All Stars, Magic Slim & The Teardrops, with more than a dozen albums of his own, Grammy nominations and a handful of awards under his belt. From his roots at the world-famous Theresa’s Lounge on Chicago’s West Side, and on Maxwell Street, through the bands of ‘Blues giants’ Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and Magic Slim, John Primer is one of the builders of Chicago Blues as we know it today.

John arrived in Chicago in 1963 from Mississippi. Attracted by the sounds of the South and West Side he started his own band. Shortly thereafter he was called to play with the band at the legendary Theresa’s Lounge (1974), of which he became the bandleader. In the following seven years he had the opportunity to play with many of his idols: Sammy Lawhorn, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Smokey Smothers, Lonnie Brooks…

In 1979 he was asked by the famous composer Willie Dixon to join his band, The Willie Dixon All Stars, with whom he toured the United States, Mexico and Europe.

It was in Europe that Muddy Waters saw him play. Months later, John was called by Muddy Waters himself to join his band, with which he would remain until his death in 1983. In the following years John became the manager of the great Magic Slim’s Teardrops, with whom he stayed for 14 years.

Since 1995 John has released a handful of albums and has won a number of awards and nominations, including Grammy’s, and has become one of the leading lights of Chicago Blues today.

On this European tour John will again be accompanied by Quique Gómez band. Quique Gomez has accompanied Primer on numerous occasions both in Chicago and in Europe and is one of the best connoisseurs of Chicago Blues on the old continent.
