This month in Tenerife, Chef Carlos G. Moreno won his very first ‘Sol Repsol’ award at the gala. His restaurant, Dexcaro & Ossadía, is located in Dénia and has officially reached the top of culinary awards with its newest star. Receiving this award means that the restaurant now has the recommendation of the Repsol Guide, and was recognized for its Ossadía tasting menu, exemplifying the fine dining practiced on the Costa Blanca.
At Dexcaro & Ossadía, Carlos’s recipes are influenced by his adventures abroad, with dishes on the menu reflecting flavors from Peru, France, and Thailand. Always striving to achieve more, the chef said “Despite the challenges, this shows that we were on the right path, and now we want more because we don’t settle.”
With a constantly changing menu from season to season, the restaurant successfully offers new and innovative dishes throughout the year. Recently, the menu at Dexcaro has features gluten-free options. The dining room is divided into two spaces, one for Dexcaro and one for Ossadía. Dexcaro offers a more urban yet gourmet experience, while Ossadía is more secluded, perfect for the intimacy meant for enjoying the gastronomic journey taking your taste buds through different continents.
Chef Carlos G. Moreno was born in Granada and adopted by Alicante and has always enjoyed using his cooking skills to surprise and impact all who experience them. Dexcaro & Ossadía was his project that launched in 2021, and has now grown to attract visitors to the port of Dénia, where the restaurant is located. “It’s a challenge to have so many great restaurants in the area, and we feel proud to be part of this team that dreams big,” said Moreno. Yet, his restaurant now proudly boasts its very own star.
So, why the Sol Repsol Award? The Repsol Guide states that the award is aimed at establishments “you would recommend to a friend and are already thinking about returning to many times.” The award is recognition for the effort of all the years the restaurants have put into crafting their success and a boost for the future that lies ahead. Just like how stars in the sky guides one at night, these stars can guide you to the perfect restaurant.
The Repsol Guide operates under the slogan ‘Tenerife has more than one Sol’, a catchy phrase that truly captures the heart and soul of the food produced by top-tier restaurants around the island. The first Sol Repsol was awarded to three restaurants in the province of Alicante, two in the province of Castellon, and two in Valencia. Now, the Valencian community is home to 46 establishments that have been awarded a star. Thirteen of these have two ‘Soles’ and six have three ‘Soles’.
