‘NÍSPERO DE CALLOSA D’EN SARRIÀ’ (LOQUAT) STARS IN ‘SABORS DE TEMPORADA’ KM 0 AT EL CORTE INGLÉS  

– The GastroMercat at El Corte Inglés Colón, the GastroMercat at El Corte Inglés Maisonnave, and the Cafeterias at El Corte Inglés Federico Soto and Castellón will be adding the recipe of the dish dedicated to this product with Designation of Origin to their gastronomic offer until 11 May.

– All El Corte Inglés supermarkets in the Valencia region will be selling this protected product during the season.

The loquat from Callosa d’en Sarrià, a product protected by its own D.O., will be the star until 11 May in El Corte Inglés, thanks to the “Sabors de Temporada Km 0” campaign, which uses a recipe to promote a local product in the middle of the season prepared by a prestigious chef.

Clóchina valenciana, Chufa de Alboraya, Tomata de Penjar d’Alcalá de Xivert, Citrus from the Comunitat Valenciana, Grapes from Vinalopó, Kaki from Ribera del Xúquer, Black Truffle from El Toro, Carxofa from Benicarló, and now, Níspero de Callosa d’en Sarrià, have already taken part in this promotion which aims to promote local products and underline El Corte Inglés’ commitment to local products at the height of the season.

Chef Carlos Moreno from the D’Excaro restaurant in Denia, has been in charge of preparing the recipe for the dish with the product of the month: “Loquat in 3 versions”, which the GastroMercat of El Corte Inglés Colón, the GastroMercat of El Corte Inglés Maisonnave, and the Cafeterias of El Corte Inglés Federico Soto and El Corte Inglés Castellón, will add to their gastronomic offer, with a perfect pairing, in this case the white wine Oro de Alejandría Moscatel Dulce from Bodegas Vegamar.

In this way, Sabors de Temporada Km 0 El Corte Inglés, which is carried out with the collaboration of the Inboga gastronomic agenda, praises this protected product which is described as “the fruit of beauty” due to its richness in carotenoids that help to care for the skin. In addition, all El Corte Inglés supermarkets in the Valencia Region will be selling loquat from Callosa d’en Sarrià, a product protected by the Denomination of Origin of the same name, in their greengrocers, to eat fresh or to prepare the most succulent recipes.

About the Callosa d’en Sarrià loquat tree

Originally from China and Japan, the loquat has found the best acclimatisation in the Mediterranean basin due to its mild climate, specifically in the area of Callosa d’en Sarrià and Altea, in the Marina Baixa region. Qualified as “the fruit of beauty” due to its richness in carotenoids that help to care for the skin, the loquat is highly recommended for sportsmen and women or people with muscular problems due to its potassium content. It also contains fibre and mucilage that help to balance the intestinal flora. Its peculiar and exotic sweet taste with acid touches make the Callosa d’en Sarrià loquat a unique and unmistakable fruit.
