In the basement of the Colón Market, the city’s first piano bar has opened, with a cocktail bar that focuses on live music and karaoke improvisation, surrounded by a classic and elegant atmosphere. An authentic and unforgettable place that combines gastronomy and music in a sophisticated atmosphere. This is ‘Piano Bar Lupin’, the new classic of Valencia’s nightlife and the first venue in the city to combine live music, signature cocktails and artistic storytelling in one place. Valencia deserved to have a piano bar of this kind, right in the heart of the city: in the basement of the Colón Market.
Piano Bar Lupin kicked off on Thursday, 2 October, with an event that will surely be remembered by the more than a hundred people who attended. Live music with the piano as the star of the show, karaoke open to all and a cocktail bar with a wide range of high-quality drinks were the ingredients that captivated the audience and which, from now on, can be enjoyed by anyone who wants to visit Arsene Lupin’s place of enjoyment.
The bar is open every day of the week from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, visitors to the cocktail bar can enjoy live music and performances, with the possibility of audience participation. This will be on Thursdays from 8pm to 10pm and from 11pm to 2am, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 10pm and from 11pm to 3am. It should be noted that the programme may vary on public holidays or for special events, information which Piano Bar will provide on its website and social media.
Pianist Dani Quinto during his performance
This is not just a cocktail bar with music. Jorge Herrero, founding partner of the establishment, explains: “Piano Bar Lupin was created for fun. We want people to let loose and stop taking everything so seriously. We have reinterpreted the classic piano bar — that dark space filled with whisky and smoke — and turned it into a bright, participatory format without constraints. We are a bar specialising in cocktails and drinks where you can sing at the top of your lungs, request songs and enjoy intimate performances.” He adds that there will be guest artists and “also moments for the audience to take the microphone, with the lyrics on screen and a master of ceremonies to guide them. Piano Bar Lupin was created as the only piano bar in Valencia with this approach. If Madrid has references such as Toni2, and Barcelona and Seville have seen the emergence of this type of venue, Valencia deserved its own temple. Many friends told us that it was about time.”
For Jose Manglano, director of the Colón Market, Piano Bar Lupin “brings character, originality and a great atmosphere. It’s something different, something new, and the Colón Market is going to benefit from this project”. In an environment where afternoon drinks and long dinners are becoming increasingly common, Manglano welcomes “with pleasure” the first piano bar in the city of Valencia. “What better place than this market, which brings together the greatest gastronomic talent per square metre in the whole city,” he says.
Arsène Lupin’s new bar: a space where signature cocktails take centre stage
Piano Bar Lupin is the most honest and carefree version of Maison Lupin, the lounge par excellence for Valencia’s nightlife, which has become a phenomenon in the city centre thanks to a unique offering: cocktails served in ceramic sculptures that pay tribute to the greats of music with cocktails named after them:
Rosalía: Gin, strawberry purée, lime, Berry Royal tonic and a sparkling touch.
Bad Bunny: With Caribbean rum from Puerto Rico, passion fruit purée, Cointreau and sweet and sour.
Julio Iglesias: The most traditional cocktail. Dry gin, white vermouth, Cointreau, tonic water and orange bitters.
Luis Miguel: Tequila, Cointreau, lime juice and sugar.
Nino Bravo: The most Valencian cocktail, with Valencian gin, orange liqueur, fresh orange juice and a splash of brut cava.
Micrófono Dorado: Vodka, mango syrup, ginger ale, lemon juice and mint leaves.
Lupin: Vodka, watermelon syrup, fresh watermelon and lime to take your hat off to.
Less pretending, more singing out of tune
Piano Bar Lupin is Valencia’s new musical meeting place: cocktails, live music and audience participation with a six-metre grand piano as the centrepiece. Resident and guest pianists perform timeless classics, pop and generational anthems, and act as hosts of the show, opening the mic at scheduled intervals. Among the artists who will sit at the piano bench are Guillermo Martín (former OT contestant), Lara Taylor, Cristina Benages, Max Russo, Azahara Escudero and Víctor Marqués, among others.
Lupin Piano Bar promises non-stop memorable nights: stand-up comedy on Mondays, open mic on Wednesdays, and even karaoke nights. In addition, Piano Bar also offers companies and individuals the possibility of organising events and parties on its premises.
A Piano Bar without karaoke would not be the same. That’s why karaoke will be the distinguishing feature during the live sessions on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the previously announced times. The artist/host will manage the turns, open the microphone, and select who sings at each moment to maintain a certain rhythm and quality.
And how does the process work? Songs are requested from the artist and, if they are in the system’s repertoire, the artist will indicate when they can be played. There is one clear rule in karaoke: you must enjoy yourself in Lupin style (informal and fun), but with composure.
Piano Bar Lupin is a place where everyone can take off their masks and gloves and relax. A new concept in cocktail bars that breaks with all the rules seen in other venues and opens its doors to singing out of tune, to stop pretending and where everything that really makes you vibrate happens: music, friends, singing while hugging as the drinks flow, breathing and contemplating art. In other words, the new classic of Valencia’s nightlife.
