The atmosphere was electric, even in the minutes leading up to the concert as expectations were high. The Viveros Gardens were the scene of a historic night on Sunday, when ‘Simple Minds’, the iconic British rock band, gave a really memorable concert that confirmed why they remain one of popular music’s greatest living legends. There’s nothing quite like powerful tunes backed by big drums… by a much loved group… with epic songs to truly bring a crowd of people together. Jim Kerr had the charisma and the band had the chops to make this an unforgettable show.
With tickets sold out, the show became the second sold-out of the Viveros Concert Series, following the success of Hakuna on July 5th, and left the Valencian audience completely enthralled with a show full of energy, nostalgia, and emotion.
From the first chords, the venue vibrated with the direct connection between the band and their fans. Jim Kerr and his band delivered an impeccable performance, revisiting their greatest hits with a power and freshness that surprised many, reminding us of the timeless relevance of their music.
Songs like “Waterfront” , “Love Song” and “ See the Light” were sung along to by a crowd that never stopped dancing and that let their voices sing along to Simple Minds’ greatest hits, which reached their peak with the performance of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” that unleashed euphoria among all those present. This is a timeless song and it sounded even better live in Valencia with the crowd singing the la-la-la-laaa chorus in unison for minutes on end… as the band accompanied them!
Another emotional moment of the evening was the band’s tribute to and remembrance of all those who have died and been affected by the DANA with the song “Let There Be Love.” The staging was carefully curated down to the smallest detail, with a lighting system that evoked the unique atmosphere of the 1980s without losing its modernity, while the band displayed all their artistry and stage presence.
The chemistry between the musicians and the rapport with the audience made each song feel like a special moment, a shared celebration between artists and attendees that culminated in the closing performance of the now legendary “Alive and Kicking.” The July 20th concert was undoubtedly a night to remember, in which Simple Minds reaffirmed their legendary status and renewed their bond with a loyal and passionate audience in Valencia.
The energy, emotion, and musical quality combined to create an experience that will remain etched in the memories of all who experienced it.
