SP-BERNER CLOSES THE YEAR WITH A TURNOVER OF 147 MILLION EUROS AND INCREASES INVESTMENT

The Valencian company invested €12 million last year and plans to invest €15 million in the current year. It is 60 years old and has increased by 77% the sale of recycled raw material in its own plant, coming from post-consumer plastic. Sp-Berner, a Valencian family company celebrating 60 years in the plastic transformation sector and with a presence in more than 50 countries, closed the last financial year with a turnover of almost 147 million euros and a pre-tax profit of 12.5 million euros. Turnover, compared to the previous year, fell by 6.7%, due to the reduction in sales prices. Profit before tax was back to 2021 levels. This was thanks to the strategic plan, which includes cost control, portfolio optimisation and improvement of all its processes.

The strategic plan is based on sustainable growth, creating a positive impact on people and the planet. The keys are committed employees, satisfied customers through quality, and differentiated, sustainable and competitive solutions.

Sp-Berner actively contributes to environmental conservation by recycling plastic waste at its 72,000 m2 recycling plant in Torrente (Valencia). Last year, around 20,000 tonnes of post-consumer plastics were recycled, converting them into high quality raw material that the Company uses for its own consumption and for marketing, with a 77% increase in the sale of this recycled raw material.

The commitment to sustainability is essential for the Valencian company, which is why it already has 60% of its energy coming from renewable sources and continues to work on reducing its carbon footprint (-1,500 Tn of CO2), using the energy it generates in its photovoltaic parks for its own use.

Sp-Berner also considers it vital to continue investing in research, development and innovation, as well as in the improvement of digitalisation, structures and its commitment to efficiency, for which it invested more than €12 million last year. By 2024, the planned investment is €15 million, aimed at specialising its production centres, strengthening its own tooling workshop and developing improvements in robotisation and automation in its different production plants. In addition, it will continue to invest in improvements to its recycling plant as a result of its firm commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.

Its main challenges for the coming years include consolidating its position as the best sustainable plastic manufacturer in Southern Europe, offering high quality recycled plastic solutions with a constant commitment to innovation; as well as its focus on specialisation and development of the Cleaning, Houseware, Garden Furniture and Dental categories; and the growth of the Industrial and Advertising Furniture Business Units, the latter thanks to agreements with major brewery brands. Currently, more than 150,000 bar terraces in Spain have sustainable furniture manufactured by Sp-Berner.
