‘THE HOUSE OF LOVE’ PLAY ‘16 TONELADAS’ ON 25 SEPTEMBER!

‘ The House of Love’ formed in 1986 in Camberwell, South London, and released their first single, Shine On, on Creation Records in May 1987. Two further singles, ‘Real Animal’ and ‘Christine’, appeared before they released their debut album in June 1988 to rapturous reviews.

The initial line-up included main songwriter Guy Chadwick (vocals, guitar), Terry Bickers (guitar), Andrea Heukamp (guitar, vocals), Chris Groothuizen (bass) and Pete Evans (drums). Heukamp left the band in 1987 and was not replaced; the group recorded their debut album as a quartet. Bickers left the band at the end of 1989 and was replaced by Simon Walker (guitar). Walker left the band in early 1992 and was replaced by Simon Mawby (guitar), but Mawby left the group before the end of the year.

Chadwick, Groothuizen and Evans toured as a trio and recorded ‘Audience With The Mind’ in early 1993, but the band had disbanded by the time the album was released. In 2005, the group reformed with Chadwick, Bickers, Evans and Matt Jury (bass). They recorded two additional studio albums and toured sporadically. In 2021, Chadwick disbanded the 2005 line-up and recruited three new members to tour the United States and record a new album, released in 2022.

The support act is Alex Nicol. He is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Montreal. After years of touring with a post-punk band, Alex is releasing his debut solo album, All for Nada. In the creation of this album, Alex entrusted his long-time partner, Nada, with many creative decisions. With the music acting as a sonic diary of the people and issues important to them, the resulting eight songs vibrate with an emotional integrity.
