What’s on in Valencia this weekend?

Valencia will hold many exciting and varied festivals this weekend, spanning across all three days!

 

Corpus Christi Festival

This weekend Valencia will celebrate the anticipated Corpus Christi festival, with a variety of  intriguing events during the weekend. At 8pm on Friday the 31st, vintage cars will leave from Casa de las Rocas until they reach the Plaza del Virgen and at 11:30pm the Night of albades will stop at the Archbishop’s palace, the door of the house of floats and the floats on display at Plaza Del Virgen. On Saturday June 1st at 12pm, the most fun-filled event of the festival will take place; the Pendja de Poals (hanging of the buckets). On the streets of Cabillers and Avellanas, buckets full of water will be hung from balconies and then thrown on ‘King Herod’s soldiers,’ with not only the soldiers, but also the spectators getting wet. Saturday night will be filled with concerts and festivities around the Plaza del Virgen from the Valencia Municipal Band and the Symphonic Band of the Unió Musical d’Alaquàs.

Sunday is the most significant day of the festival, with the Convite parade commencing at 12pm, and the Corpus Christi procession starting at 7pm, consisting of large biblical and traditional figures.

Valencia is Coffee festival 

For the coffee lovers, the first speciality coffee festival will arrive in the city this weekend. Valencia is Coffee, a festival promoted by Delibab Coffee and SOLO Magazine will open its doors to the public on Saturday from 10am-7pm and Sunday 10am-4pm. The event offers coffee tasting, interactive workshops from bean selection to roasting and preparation techniques, and the chance to gain knowledge from coffee sector professionals.

Russafira Festival

Another exciting event this weekend is the Russafira social fair that will be full of artists, craftsmen, musicians, carnival dancers and more. Located in the Parc Granero, in the Ruzafa neighbourhood, on Friday the 31st of May, Saturday the 1st of June and Sunday the 2nd of June, the Russafira fair will be full of fun and activities. The park will be hosting a range of activities with different participating associations from the Russafa neighbourhood, including debates, workshops, music and dance performances, carnival groups, art creations and even storytelling and childrens activities. On Friday, the event will be open from 5pm to 10pm, Saturday from 12-3pm and then 5-10pm and on Sunday from 12-3pm and then 5-10pm.
