American jangle-pop group Nada Surf played last Thursday at ‘La Rambleta’ for a gathering of enthused fans. Lead vocalist Matthew Caws on guitar, bassist Daniel Lorca, drummer Ira Elliot and keyboardist Louie Lino powered through a well-received show. The set included much of their latest 2024 recording, opening the show with Second Skin, then into the catchy In Front of Me Now. Other new songs were peppered into the set: title track Moon Mirror, Intel and Dreams, The One You Want, Losing and Give Me The Sun.
Caw’s lilting vocals with the band’s backing harmonies completed their refined sound. It has a singsong cadence and makes for pleasant music live and on record too. Lorca’s bass lines were inventive, adding great low-end melody to the songs. It was Elliot’s style of drumming that was the most engaging of the four performing. His playing is physical and a bit flamboyant as he was expressively having great fun.
Older favorites Blonde on Blonde, Where Is My Mind?, Inside of Love, New Propeller and the edgier single Popular made the set list. They continue touring Europe through mid-March returning to tour in the states mid-April. Upcoming dates.
