‘Loco Club’ in Valencia is your next stop for a night out with friends. Locals and tourists alike gather in the perfect-sized club to watch your favourite band, grab a drink with friends, or discover an up-and-coming artist. This past weekend, I attended Jesse Dayton’s show at Loco Club, and it was the perfect local Valencia feel that I have been searching for in a venue! From the outside, Loco Club looks to be small and intimate (which it can be), but once inside, you’ll find two fully stocked bars, art from local artists, neon signs, a raised stage, and plenty of space to get up and dance, or barstools to take a seat on. The capacity is for about 300 people. Located a couple of minutes from the Àngel Guimerà metro stop, the club is conveniently located outside the hustle and bustle of Central Valencia, but close enough that the metro or even a short walk will get you there in no time.
My favourite part of the ‘Loco Club’ was the authentic local feel. The staff was kind and welcoming, and the crowd inside was quite friendly – talking and hugging one another throughout the night. As a visitor from the United States, I sometimes find it difficult to fit in at small local spots, but Loco Club was warm and inviting, making me feel right at home amongst the locals.
A bit more about the band: Jesse Dayton is from Beaumont, Texas, and blends Texas blues, outlaw country, and punk rock into his own unique sound. The band consists of Jesse Dayton on the electric guitar & vocals, the bearded Mark Riddell on bass and drummer Eric Tucker too. At Loco Club, Jesse said it was the smallest crowd they had played for in Spain, so the show was made to feel extra special. The band’s newest album The Hard Way Blues was #2 on American billboards for blues songs, “I don’t know why they put it there”, Jesse said, “I guess they just don’t know what to do with me!”
Loco Club truly does have something for everybody. If a unique blend of American country music and rock-n-roll isn’t for you, they have concerts featuring R&B, soul, power pop, indie rock, garage, DJ sessions, and more. The venue can also organize private parties, catering, award ceremonies, business meetings, and other events. Upcoming shows include The Picturebooks, Benjamín Amadeo, The Kenneth Brian Band, Stop Party: Los Roper, and Shirocco. Visit their website link below for a full list of upcoming events.
