This Friday, Children of Zeus are set to take the stage at ‘16 Toneladas’. The Manchester duo consisting of Konny Kon and Tyler Daley effortlessly create a sound that is both familiar, reminiscent of old skool hip-hop, rap and soul, yet completely fresh, bringing something new to these much-loved genres. Citing influences from the likes of Jodeci, Lauryn Hill and Soul II Soul to name a few, Children of Zeus pay homage to the music they grew up listening to.
Both artists, previously in different musical groups, met at a show in France and formed a pairing that the Manchester music scene (and indeed the music scene around the world) didn’t know they needed.
Their latest album ‘Balance’ was created during lockdown and deals with themes such as growth, rejection, desire and falling out of love. Balance is a project that came from the pair realising how important the concept of balance is. This is a realisation that came from maturing and some introspection during a period where introspection was the only thing a lot of people could do. It is also a project where the pair had to find balance between them. It became a real collaboration where neither element could exist without the other. In an interview with Notion, they express how they are both able to elevate and be elevated by each other, an extra layer is added to Tyler’s singing alongside Konny’s rapping and vice versa.
‘16 Toneladas’ is famous for bringing some of the most talented musicians to Valencia. The lively rock club, located just a ten-minute walk from El Carmen, allows visitors to experience live music in an intimate setting with a capacity of around 300 people.
Spanish supporters can catch the duo in both Valencia and Madrid during their European tour and can expect to hear the latest hits from their new album such as ‘No Love Song’ and ‘Balance’.
