CULLERA PAELLA FESTIVAL (EXCLUSIVE PHOTOGRAPHIC REPORT)

Approaching the centre of Cullera last Saturday, it was clearly evident that there was some sort of food festival in full flow as there was a mix of Paella aromas flowing through the streets, which had my stomach rumbling in an instant.Following my nose, I arrived at one of the stages where they were handing out free samples of Paella to the locals and many visitors to the town. It was clearly evident as to how passionate the people of Valencia are about their traditional dish of Paella, which is known the world over. As the plates of Paella were being handed out, there were discussions on stage between the chef and presenter about different ways and techniques as to how Paella should be cooked.  With the large screen on stage, the viewer could witness the different stages of preparing and cooking Paella as the camera focused on the large pan of ingredients.

As I strolled through the main street, there were many stalls where vendors had their varied products on display, from artisan foods and some stunning arts and crafts which had the visitors to the town very intrigued. As in any good festival, there was also some beautiful traditional music and dancing with dancers in their very colourful traditional Spanish garments. Unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions, the third day of the festival was called off. There were threats of heavy rain all weekend but as luck would have it, the rain stayed away for Friday and Saturday. Will I attend the Cullera festival next year? Of course, I will. Shall I attempt to cook Paella myself? I think I will leave it to the experts.
