‘IOT SPARKS’ TURNS THE TERMINAL HUB INTO A LIVING LABORATORY OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION AND MONITORS A REAL-TIME EVENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SPAIN

The Terminal Hub hosted this week a new edition of IoT Sparks, the international conference dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT) and applied innovation, organized by the technology company LORIOT. After the success of the first, the event returned with an even more ambitious proposal: to transform The Terminal Hub into a “Living Lab” where real-time measurements will be taken thanks to sensors connected using LoRaWAN® technology, developed in collaboration with Milesight and Akenza. This installation  allowed attendees to live an immersive experience in which IoT ceases to be theory and becomes tangible practice.

The opening ceremony was led by Dario Maccarrone (LORIOT), who introduced the various sections of the program from the Turia Room, with a live broadcast. The first session addressed key topics such as the future of IoT, IBM’s vision for computing, and the scaling of industrial solutions with speakers including Jim Morrish (Transforma Insight), Carina Lourdes Viglietti (IBM), Charles Joel (WIKA Group), Fabio Rosa (TagoIO), Harry Hua (Milesight), Ángel Navarro (Valencia Innovation Capital), and Dries van der Kleij (Aloxy). Panels on smart cities and public services were also held.

Among the most notable new features, the Living Lab measured traffic flow without compromising privacy, displaying occupancy by zone through heat maps. Noise levels were recorded, allowing the impact of each session to be identified through audience response, and environmental parameters such as CO₂, temperature, and humidity will be monitored. Through connected feedback buttons, participants were able to share their assessments of conferences, spaces, and services, generating qualitative data in real time.

For The Terminal Hub , the event’s venue and strategic partner, participation in IoT Sparks represented an opportunity to materialize its commitment to innovation and the growth of the Valencian technological ecosystem. “We want to demonstrate that technology can be experiential, practical, and accessible. Transforming our space into a Living Lab is a way to accelerate the adoption of IoT and demonstrate how collaboration between companies and innovation spaces can generate real impact,” highlights Quique Calabuig, CEO of The Terminal Hub. Francesc Pons, director of TTH, adds: “We are hosting a pioneering event that is aligned with our strategic technology focus. It is our mission to host, support, and promote these types of initiatives where cutting-edge and disruptive technologies play a key role in the development of innovation.”

The second session was dedicated to sustainability and the impact of the IoT, with interventions by Stefania Gilli (Vodafone IoT), Fer Guirao (Plytix), Jaap Groot (Ignion), Pietro Manzoni (UPV), Paul Schwartz (SenArch), Girish Dadheech (Zetako) and Peter Hedberg (mioty alliance), among others.

The third session explores trends in logistics, mobility, and technology education, with presentations by Tom Rebbeck (Analysys Mason), Liliane Paradise (Miromico), Chris Battarbee (WIKA Group), Yueming Ding (University of Navarra), and Fabio Cavalieri (Trailslight).

At midday, a catamaran cruise, a one-hour experience to foster connection among participants in a relaxed setting, concluded with a final reception with aperitifs. But before that, industrial safety and energy was discussed, with interventions by Rafa Kaja (EY), Jonas Schmid (Akenza), and Pierre Nacache (Asystom), in addition to a panel moderated by Tom Rebbeck with experts from Rotiot, Hotta, and ITE.
