JOSÉ SOTO TAKES HIS “KALEIDOSCOPE” TO THE ‘CASINO  AGRICULTURAL’

“Kaleidoscope” suggests to the viewer that the perception of reality depends on the perspective and the interior of each individual. This is how they will enjoy the exhibition by the Extremaduran artist based in Valencia, José Soto, better known as J. Táliga, which has opened at the Casino de Agricultura and will remain open until November. As Luis Sendra, architect and curator of the exhibition, says, “Soto’s work reminds us of the well-known poem Las Dos Linternas by Ramón de Campoamor, – And it is that in the treacherous world / there is nothing true or false / everything is according to the colour / of the glass through which one looks- .” José Soto’s work is a reflection on the subjectivity of this world. “The author interacts with each viewer,” Sendra continues, concluding: “and there is no absolute universal truth – Who is more faithful in painting the works that God created?

The exhibition “Kaleidoscope” has twelve works that are landscapes of an abstract world, with esoteric components, their names refer to the “sacred stones of Exodus 28:15-30” : Carnelian/Sardius, Chrysolite/Topaz, Emerald, Carbuncle/Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Lapis Lazuli/Hyacinth, Agate, Amethyst, Beryl/Aquamarine, Onyx, and Jasper/Chrysoprase.

The materiality, on the other hand, is also particularly original. José uses egg tempera on a glass support, an ancient technique in which egg yolk acts as a medium to mix and fix the natural pigments in the support, creating a durable and quick-drying paint. The binder he uses is egg yolk diluted in water in a ratio of 1 to 3. He applies pigments from a varied spectrum: Cobalt Blue, Black, Red, Cadmium Yellow, Fuchsia, and Green in all their shades.
