The Valencian Library at ‘San Miguel de los Reyes’ monastery opens its doors to music with the live music ‘Sueña Valencia’ cycle in May! Vicente Barrera: “Sueña Valencia is another example of our commitment to quality culture that is open to everyone”. Coque Malla, Seguridad Social, Marwan, Nach, Santero y Los Muchachos, The Christians and the Cuarteto de Cuerda de Valencia star in this event Tickets, free of charge, will be available for download from 15 April at www.sueñavalencia.com.
During the month of May, the First Vice-presidency and Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport is presenting the Sueña Valencia (Dream Valencia) series at the Biblioteca Valenciana Nicolau Primitiu, located inside the San Miguel de los Reyes monastery in Valencia, consisting of seven free concerts that will take place between the 3rd and 31st of May. The first vice-president and councillor for Culture and Sport, Vicente Barrera, pointed out that the aim of this proposal, an initiative of the Directorate General for Culture, is “to promote knowledge of such an important heritage site as the San Miguel de los Reyes monastery, through a musical cycle open to all audiences”.
In this sense, he stated that Sueña Valencia “is another example of our commitment to quality culture that is open to everyone; and what better way to unite our heritage and our music in a spring festival in which attendees can enjoy a varied musical offer ranging from rock, rap, singer-songwriters, chamber music and the fusion of music and illustration, in the privileged setting of the cloister of this jewel of Valencian heritage”.
The artists Coque Malla, the Valencian band Seguridad Social, Marwan, the rapper Nach, Santero y Los Muchachos, the British group The Christians and the Cuarteto de Cuerda de Valencia will be the stars of the concerts, which will take place in the cloister of the Monastery, in seated format, at 22:00h.
Likewise, the renowned Valencian illustrator Paco Roca, winner of the National Comic Prize and the City of Valencia Cultural Merit Award, has been commissioned to design the poster for Sueña Valencia.
Coque Malla will be in charge of opening this cycle on Friday the 3rd of May, performing the songs that make up his latest studio album ‘Aunque estemos muertos’, as well as hits and milestones from his career as a member of Los Ronaldos and as a solo artist.
On Friday the 10th of May, the concert ‘Canciones dibujadas’ will be held, in which Seguridad Social, the band led by José Manuel Casañ, along with some of the most outstanding Valencian cartoonists of the last few decades will combine music and drawings while they talk to the audience.
This is an intimate event in which the Valencian band will perform their well-known songs while cartoonists such as Martín Forés, Mar Silvestre, Cento Yuste, Ortifus, Rosa Deltoro, Lalo Kubala, Boke Bazán, Inma Carpena, Raúl Salazar, Raquel Aparicio, Luis NCT, MacDiego, Zoraida Zaro and Paco Roca illustrate them.
The cycle continues on Saturday the 11th of May with the performance of Marwan, one of the main voices of singer-songwriters in Spain and Latin America, who will present ’20 aniversario’, the record that commemorates his two decades in music for which he has re-recorded some of his songs with a more modern sound and has shared multiple duets with artists such as Mikel Izal, Rozalén and Andrés Suárez.
On the 17th of May it will be the turn of Nach and his ‘Piano and voice’ concert. The rapper, a perfect blend of toughness and sensitivity, presents this show, accompanied by the pianist Dani Catalá, where his rhymes with lyrics that accompany, embrace and speak to you of self-esteem will parade.
The Valencians Santero y Los Muchachos will take over on 24 May. Miguel Angel Escrivá, voice, soul and heart of the project, started this project after his time with La Pulquería to release songs under the label of ‘laid-back rock’ that had no place in his previous group and which aimed to embrace the rock of the present while looking to the past.
The international touch will be provided on 25 May by the British band The Christians, formed by brothers Garry, Roger and Russell Christian, along with guitarist Henry Priestman. The band has left an indelible mark on music since its formation in 1985 with hits like ‘Forgotten Town’ and ‘Hooverville’ and compositions that fuse soul, gospel and pop with reflective lyrics.
The final touch to Sueña Valencia on 31 May will be provided by the Cuarteto de Cuerda Valencia (Valencia String Quartet). The group is made up of four women (Paloma Castellar and Lola Bendicho on violins, Mara Ponce on viola and Teresa Alamá on cello) who combine teaching with chamber music performance and collaboration with different national orchestras. Their career is characterised by the constant renewal of their repertoire and continuous learning with prestigious maestros.
Free tickets: Tickets can be downloaded from 15 April on the website www.sueñavalencia.com. Tickets will be allocated in order of booking, with a maximum of four people per purchase. A handling fee of €3 per ticket will be charged by the ticket distribution platform.
