LOVE IN THE AIR: THE SINGLE LIFE IN VALENCIA MEETS A NEW WAVE OF IRL MATCHMAKING

It may feel like there are more single people than ever before and, according to statistics, you aren’t wrong. Across Spain, the single population has surged dramatically in recent years, with reports showing that we’ve added roughly 1.2 million new single adults in just three years, far outpacing the growth in marriages. There are more than 5.5 million people now living alone nationwide, hitting record levels as individual lifestyles continue to rise. Demographic forecasts suggest that single-person households will keep growing, projected to climb toward nearly 7.7 million — about a third of all homes — by 2039. In other words: if you’re single in Valencia, you’re far from alone.

But hope abounds and love is definitely in the air of our delightful city. There is a growing trend towards skipping the apps and meeting that special someone in real life. In the next month alone, there are at least five different events around the city where singles are hoping to meet face-to-face, including Valencia’s most playful and refreshing social experiments, Pitch-A-Friend Valencia.

Pitch-A-Friend Valencia: Where Friendship Meets Matchmaking

Pitch-A-Friend is the bilingual event where your best mate gets on the mic for you. Think of it as a friendly roast (but only nice things allowed!) meets live dating introduction at some of the city’s coolest social spots that already have that relaxed, “let’s hang out” vibe. They become your ultimate wingman/wingwoman!

The last event hosted more than 50 people and had 10 presentations of 3-5 minutes each. Friends registered to present their single friends to the crowd and aim the spotlight on their best traits, quirks, hobbies and what they were looking for in a partner.

The room got to know the singles and made it easier to strike up a conversation during mingle time. It’s a simple premise but one that’s turned out to be ridiculously effective at breaking the ice. And for a community where digital dating fatigue can be real, Pitch-A-Friend Valencia’s emphasis on in-person connection has struck a chord.

Mark Your Calendar

  • January 26th at 7PM. The second Pitch-A-Friend Valencia event is officially on the calendar at Bear Club and word on the street is that the first gathering was seriously good.
  • February 15th. Another Pitch-A-Friend event is already in the works, giving even more chances to meet someone, whether you’re pitching or being pitched!

Real Singles in Valencia

In a city known for its vibrancy and social lifestyle, there’s still something uniquely refreshing about meeting people face-to-face, not screen-to-screen. Real laughs, real reactions, real chances for chemistry. And in a cultural moment where independence is increasingly common and celebrated, events like these help bridge the gap between living solo and building connections.

Whether you’re newly single, happily single but curious, or somewhere in between, these events are tapping into what many of us secretly crave: authentic, fun and IRL ways to meet people and see if there’s chemistry.

So if you’re up for swapping swipes for slideshows and profiles for pints, Valencia’s newest social twist might just be what you need. Show up, and maybe you’ll leave with more than a good story.
