The Asociación de Comerciantes del Mercado de Colón, Cortadores Solidarios Siempre Unidos and the Asociación de Elaboradores de Cava de Requena are asking Valencians to come out this weekend to raise as much money as possible. Valencia, 20 November 2024. The Mercado de Colón has programmed a series of special events to be held on 23 and 24 November, in a great Weekend of Solidarity that will begin on Saturday, with the celebration of a new edition of the Valencian Cava Fair, which aims to reach 6,000 solidarity toasts paired with special tapas offered by Martin & Mary, Manglano, Mi Cub, Pantalán 5, Down, Las cervezas del Mercado, Ma Khin Café, Suc de Lluna and Casa Orxata. On Sunday, 60 ham cutters will prepare more than a thousand dishes with the best selected pieces. All the tastings will be sold through tickets and all the proceeds will be donated.
All proceeds raised by the Asociación de Comerciantes del Mercado de Colón will go directly to repair the Aldaia Municipal Market, whose facilities and stalls have been seriously damaged by the effects of the storm. “The board of Aldaia Market will be coming on Saturday to join us so it will be exciting for them to see how people will support them,” explained José Manuel Manglano. For their part, the Association of Cava Bottlers of Requena will donate all the toasts sold, both virtual and real, to the Valencian Charity Association. Finally, the Always United Solidarity Cutters will donate to two colleagues who have lost their businesses, Sabor Umami from Algemesi and Charcutería y Salazones Maria from Paiporta and will also donate a part to Confecomerç, because, as Alicia Garrido explained, “If we are always donating ham and cutting for those who need it, how can we not help our colleagues!”
Thus, the traditional Valencian Cava Fair, organised by the Requena Cava Bottlers’ Association, which this year celebrates its tenth edition, will return on Saturday, from 12 to 15 and from 19 to 22 hours, but with the aim of reaching 6,000 toasts of solidarity, which will also be accompanied by the best tapas: the best tapas: “Cava de Requena”, solidarity toasts which will also be accompanied by the best tapas: Seafood and oysters from Martin y Mary; Ham and cheeses from Manglano; Chicken curry or beef Pepito from Pantalan 5 and Down; Titaina del Cabañal Montaditos, Russian salad, Iberian ham croquette, mini figatell burger with coriander aioli and caramelised onion from Mi Cub and Las Cervezas del Mercado; Pintxos de Satay from Ma Khin Café and assorted pintxos of 100% organic vegetables from L’Horta or cured goat’s milk cheese, with organic certificate from Suc de Lluna and Casa Ortxata. It should be noted that Vino y Flores, due to its location, will participate directly with a financial donation similar to that collected by its partners.
All these gourmet tapas, of guaranteed product and quality, can be paired with the best cavas from seven magnificent Valencian wineries: Coviñas, Chozas Carrascal, Dominio de la Vega, Hispano Suizas, Cavas Marevia, Pago de Tharsys and Torre Oria.
During the day of Sunday 24th, both in the Mercado de Colón and in different locations throughout Spain, more than 300 ham cutters will offer their exquisite work to raise funds for those affected. In Valencia, specifically, and from 11:30h to 15:30h, the 60 members of the association ‘Cortadores Solidarios Siempre Unidos’ will cut more than a thousand portions that will be distributed thanks to the work of dozens of volunteers who will make a wide variety of pieces available to the public for tasting. All those attending will be able to purchase tickets with which to purchase this selection of available hams, and will be able to taste them in any of the Market spaces, to be paired with whatever they like best.
For the celebration of this charity event, and with the aim of raising the maximum amount of funds, Aumsa, the municipal company in charge of the management of the Mercado de Colón, has provided the space free of charge in order to maximise the amount raised.
During the presentation of the Solidarity Weekend, all the organisers insisted on the need to publicise this event, which will be able to directly help many of the victims and which, in addition, will convey the need to help.
