Self-described as “big riff rock with a DIY meets hard rock attitude. A lo-fi, punk dance party with a backpack full of choruses.”, this Philadelphia power rock band tore up the crowd. They grabbed everyone by the face and commanded attention. Fast, sharp, staccato loud rhythmic guitar boomed. Calmly stoic relative to the manic guitars and bass, singer Christina Halladay has a strong voice that carries above the instrumental fray. At moments, she echoed Perry Farrell’s vocal timbre.
Above all the sweaty, frenetic sonic energy, Sheer Mag has raw and melodic songs. While they had mellower guitar moments, the overdrive and guitar distortion was far away. Kind of hard to tag down into any one category, they are a sound of their own. Together, Kyle Seely and Matt Palmer guitars are a force to be reckoned with. Seely’s guitar solos were a noteworthy part of their sound. Hart Seely on bass and Evan Campbell drumming complete the rhythm section. Teetering on splintered destruction, they are fun to watch and listen to live. Overall, great music for fast driving on the open road. Better yet, in a car chase.
