Before arriving in Valencia, Suzanne’s tour will visit Inca in Mallorca and Madrid, before arriving at the Teatro La Rambleta in Valencia to deliver her “Vital and inventive music,” as it has been described on NPR.
Raised in Spanish Harlem and the Upper West Side of New York, Suzanne Vega rose to fame in the late 1980s with her folk-pop lyrics inspired by Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. Her hit single, Luka was significant in her rise to popularity, and ever since she has maintained a strong cult following. Her partnership and marriage with experimental producer Mitchell Froom resulted in two albums, 99.9Fº in 1992 which won Best Rock Album of the year at the New York Music Awards, and in 1996 Nine objects of desire. Since her return to music in 2001, she has released a plethora of folk-pop albums.
Vega will be accompanied by her longtime guitarist, Gerry Leonard who has performed with the likes of David Bowie, Laurie Anderson and Rufus Wainwright. The show will span Vega’s entire career, with iconic songs such as Luka and Tom’s Diner being performed, showcasing her distinctive voice which has been described by The Washington Post as: “a cool, dry whisper close to sandpaper”. Her songwriting has been labelled by The New York Times as: “clinically poetic.”
