Valencia, December 15, 2025. The Bancaja Foundation will present its traditional Christmas Altarpiece concert next Friday, December 19, at El Patriarca Church in Valencia. This deeply rooted and traditional musical event is part of the Concerts at the Foundation series, organized in collaboration with Pavasal.
The concert will be performed by the Orfeó Valencià choir under the direction of Josep Lluís Valldecabres. The program includes pieces ranging from the rich polyphony of the 17th century to contemporary harmonies of the 20th century. The selection of works seeks to capture the timeless essence of this time of year and showcase how the Christmas spirit has been interpreted in diverse ways by composers from different eras, such as John Reading, Michael Praetorius, Jesús Ribera Faig, George Frideric Handel, César Franck, Mykola Leontovych, Rebecca Dale, Ernest Cervera, John Rutter, César Alejandro Carrillo, Irving Berlin, Eric Whitacre, Josep Ll. Valldecabres, Matilde Salvador, and Franz X. Gruber.
The recital will feature instrumental accompaniment by Jesús Debón on piano, Alexander Goroshilov on oboe, Rubén Velasco on Venezuelan cuatro, and Fernando Morales on percussion, joined by solo soprano voices Gema Rubio and Isabel M. Gracián.
The Orfeó Valencià was founded in Valencia in 1972 and has since collaborated with leading Valencian and Spanish orchestras, as well as with The Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields and the Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. They have performed on stages around the world, and their repertoire encompasses the most representative music and composers from the Renaissance to the present day, with a special focus on Valencian composers.
The concert will take place on Friday, December 19th at 8:00 pm in the Patriarch’s Church. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Tickets can be collected in advance from the Bancaja Foundation (Plaza Tetuán, 23) starting tomorrow, Tuesday, December 16th, at 5:00 pm.
