The Bancaja Foundation will present the plastic dialogue of Juan Carlos Nadal with nature in the exhibition ‘Cos d’aigua’ (Body of Water)

Fundacion Bancaja will present the exhibition ‘Cos d’aigua’ (Body of Water) by Juan Carlos Nadal at its headquarters in Valencia. It will open its doors on the 11th of July, with a review of his artistic output over the past 15 years, always with “the creative approach of expressing his concern about the impact of humankind on nature”.

The exhibition, curated by Felisa Martinez Andres, will feature around 30 works of paint, sculpture, drawing, and visual art, featuring unpublished pieces made for this exhibition.

The work of the artist from Alicante reflects the powerful imprint that leaves the human presence in the natural medium, that can be seen in the Earth, the sea, the rivers and the atmosphere. The Nadal’s creations are formally characterised by tension, movement and instability, they will explore the interaction between the natural environment and the human presence, creating pieces that reflect the harmony, conflict and symbolism between the two.

The selection of works that make up this exhibition proposal, from institutional and private collections, also delves into the Nadal’s exploration about the physical and corpulent possibilities of the painting, an approach to the three-dimensionality that the artist himself calls a “hybridization process”.

In his piece “Resina vinilica y pigmiento sobre alumino” (Vinyl resin and pigment on aluminium), he ponders the position of nature (in this case the ocean), when it is overprinted by an anthropogenic dissonance that jumps out in his typical three-dimensional style. Furthermore in “Oleo sobre carton” (Oil on cardboard), he explores the greasy texture of natural resource exploitation industry, and its detrimental environmental impact.

Juan Carlos Nadal (Alicante, 1966) studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Among his individual exhibitions in public institutions, they highlight those made in Espai La Llogeta CAM (Valencia), Espai d’Art Lambert (Javea), University of Alicante Museum, Valencia City Council, Las Cigarreras (Alicante), Espai d’Art Contemporani El Castell de Riba-Roja, among others.

His work is represented in the diverse collections of museums and institutions like IVAM, University of Alicante Museum (MUA), the City Council of Alicante, Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community, as well as in private collections.

Juan Carlos Nadal’s sample can be visited at the headquarters of the Bancaja Foundation in Valencia, alongside other events and exhibitions such as Aula de Artes ¡Un Verano de cine! (Art Class. A summer of film!) and Escenas y paisajes en la pintura Valenciana. Siglos XIX y X (Scenes and landscapes in Valencian painting. 19th and 20th centuries).
