‘The Wave Pictures’ began their career in 1998. Since then, the British trio hasn’t stopped: in addition to the frenetic pace of their concert schedule, they have been producing a steady stream of albums at the rate of almost an album a year. For example, “Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon”, released in February 2015, was their thirteenth official LP (not forgetting that they have also released a large number of singles, EPs, rarities and unofficial material). But then in February 2016 they released their fourteenth album, “A Season In Hull” -which they recorded with only one microphone and only released on vinyl-, and in November of that year their successor, “Bamboo Diner In The Rain”. In June 2018 they returned with another LP, “Brushes With Happiness”, and that November “Look Inside Your Heart” was also released.
The pandemic slowed them down, although they returned in May 2022 with the album “When The Purple Emperor Spreads His Wings”. With David Tattersall’s guitar and vocals at the front -and Franic Rozycki’s bass and Jonny Helm’s drums at the back-, The Wave Pictures play what Modern Lovers did in their day -and later Herman Dune or Hefner-, only they play it as if Rory Gallagher was their lead guitar. With the label of lo-fi pop-rock, they never renounce the maxim that puts attitude before technique and they are always vaccinated against fashion. Years go by and they are still the same cheeky lads, only sounding more and more classic and daring at the same time.
‘YO SOMOS’
Yo somos is a band formed by the Valencians Quique Gallo, Xema Fuertes and Cayo Bellveser. Theirs are melodies as bright as sunshine, encouraged by the example of illustrious masters like Jonathan Richman and his Modern Lovers, Violent Femmes, The Jam, The Wave Pictures, The Moldy Peaches or Stanley Brinks. And they know very well that they are playing against the grain, in this era of artificially inflated productions, underscored choruses with epic aspirations and posers, designed with the big festival in mind. None of that goes for them. They are convinced outsiders.
As the Paul Weller song said: if you blink, you’re missing out. The spark of good pop is so fleeting that it’s better to catch it in full combustion. Because everything in ‘Yo Somos’ is about spontaneity, freshness, instinct. The Valencians Quique Gallo, Xema Fuertes and Cayo Bellveser are currently the most captivating power trio on the national music scene. Their thing is immediacy, economy of means, and the radiant luminosity of their songs.
