On Monday, January 26th at 16 Toneladas, CUB presents—eager to extend the adventure—’Green Milk from the Planet Orange’, a Japanese progressive rock band from Tokyo, far removed from the post-tacky trend often associated with the genre. Listen to the remaster of City Calls Revolution and imagine yourself savouring a nigiri at Fripp’s house in ’74, with fiery wasabi, until it takes on a psychedelic punk flavour and spicy vocal touches, a fine point on the palate that surprises and makes you travel in your bathrobe to the orange planet to discover a new umami.
On this planet, through a geographical convolution of signals, besides King Crimson’s “Red,” echoes of Flower Travellin’ Band and Acid Mothers Temple float by. They are prog, heavy, and psych. And live, after touring several times in the US, Europe, and Japan, they’ll dedicate January and February to touring Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, making a proud stop in Valencia: the best track to start the week. We already sampled it back in the day.
And to multiply, not add, they’re accompanied by Valencians Anno Solar, an electric quartet of experimental rock: Cristian Nik Ballester (guitar, vocals), Pau Calderón (drums, vocals), Carlos G. Meseguer (electronics), and Mario Pytark (bass, vocals). This squad stains the sun with the drone doom paint of Sunn O))), uses axioms of This Heat to reinvent Conan theorems without any known metal, with new elements from the periodic table: a Valencian party.
Experimental chemists cook up organic formulas with blurred lines; you won’t need a bathrobe, just gowns. They could compose the soundtrack for the next fictional season of Lars von Trier’s The Kingdom. They are the positive embodiment of asepsis, somewhere between shirt elegance and close-ups of extreme power. They refract sound without changing mediums: an acoustic marvel full of dramatic pauses. Listen, travel, fly, bring ear protection, a bathrobe or gown, and come: you’ll feel curated; the next day you’ll just want to be a ‘Payoya goat cheese’!
