‘Voltereta Manhattan’ is a hidden treasure in Valencia. A speakeasy restaurant that thrives off word of mouth. During the prohibition from 1920 to the early 30s, speakeasies were establishments where alcoholic beverages were illegally served in the United States. To avoid detection by the authorities, the clientele of these bars were encouraged to speak quietly. In recent years, the concept of a speakeasy has become very popular and now refers to bars or restaurants shrouded in discretion that embody the era. Voltereta Manhattan is no exception. A place to escape every day reality and slip back to the Jazz Age of the 1920s. This trendy restaurant in the heart of the city captures the essence of the Roaring Twenties- a surging era of dancing and decadence. Voltereta as a brand promotes the concept of culinary travel, asking clients on the website ‘where do you want to travel?’ In Valencia, there is also a ‘Voltereta Bali’ on Gran Vía and their newest establishment, the Japanese restaurant, ‘Voltereta Kioto’.

Upon arrival at Voltereta Manhattan, the restauarant poses as a bookstore with a stylish entrance filled with iconic literary works and characters. Visitors are then invited to take part in an interactive experience choosing their story in a book on the concierge’s counter. You are then led into a mirrored corridor illuminated with lights and colour that creates a stunning kaleidoscope effect.

The sense of style and sophistication is echoed inside Voltereta in the lavish decor. The restaurant is lined with palm trees and botanical influences with a water fountain taking centre stage. The marble flooring, grand mirrors and velvet upholstery serve to enhance the elegance of the venue. Voltereta’s fusion cuisine has a little bit of everything with South Asian influences creating exotic, mouth-watering dishes. The pace of service is attentive yet relaxed and the waiters and waitresses are dressed accordingly with peaky blinders hats and art deco style. The ambience is created by the live music on the stage and often diners will get up between courses to dance around the tables to the rhythm of the jazz.
