“ART. FLAVOURS. CULTURE”: CASINO DE AGRICULTURA RECEIVES THE EXHIBITION OF CARLOTA CIOVINI THAT MERGES THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE USING STAMPS AND CARTOONS.
On May 5, the exhibition was plastered across the walls of members’ restaurant ‘Casino Rock’ in the Casino of Agriculture. Artist Carlota Ciovini creates canvases compiled of two very different symbols: envelope stamps and famous cartoon characters. The artist fuses the past, present and future in an exhibition that navigates through mystery, joy and nostalgia.
The ‘Casino Rock’ restaurant is a restaurant in The ‘Casino de Agricultura’, an emblematic building in the centre of Valencia featuring meeting rooms and conference spaces for private members and companies. The restaurant was opened by brothers Andrés and Mario Hidalgo, who use their culinary skills to serve Mediterranean cuisine combined with traditional home cooking. Casino Rock is a renovated space with a spacious lounge and cosy dining room featuring a high-end menu with interesting and exciting dishes, cocktails and premium service.
Ciovini uses the walls of the restaurant to unite stamps, objects of the past now in disuse, with the more recognisable images of cartoons that the viewer is familiar with. She explains: “If you ask a child what a stamp is, they probably won’t know what it is. But they will know the drawings that, even though they are from the same period, are still very recognisable at any age”.
Different emotions are conveyed in each separate work Ciovini creates. She also captures a sense of nostalgia for the memories that each work carries, along with a sense of charm and mystery.
