‘FESTIVAL  DE JAZZ DE  VALÈNCIA’  2023 (JULY 4th – JULY 30th)

From the 4th to the 30th of July, the ‘Valencia Jazz Festival’ returns for its 26th appearance at the renowned ‘Teatro Principal’ and other venues! The Festival de Jazz València is a mesmerising celebration of the soulful and vibrant genre that has captured the hearts of music enthusiasts worldwide. The festival prides itself on curating a diverse programme that caters to all tastes and preferences. From Spanish jazz to kids’ performances to flamenco-infused rhythms, there will be something for everyone. A wide array of talented musicians and jazz artists will perform at the festival, showcasing their exceptional skills and unique musical expressions in such a heritage filled location. Built in the 19th century, the ‘Teatro Principal’ is a true architectural masterpiece, standing as a testament to Valencia’s deep appreciation for the performing arts. The acoustics of the theatre are meticulously designed, ensuring that every note, every word, resonates with clarity and emotion.

Here is a summary of some of the artists that will be performing at this year’s festival:

 

  • Alex Conde, a highly acclaimed pianist from Valencia, graduated from the José Iturbi Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. With this group “Los Indultados”, he transforms popular Spanish music, including pasadobles and coplas, as well as classics.
  • Dave Holland, a prominent bassist and composer, has worked with jazz legends like Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea. He has released numerous albums, including “Question and Answer”, nominated for a Grammy.
  • Dianne Reeves, a veteran vocalist, has a successful career with over 30 albums, including “I Remember” and “Quiet After The Storm”, earning Grammy nominations.
  • The Dainius Pulauskas Group, a leading Lithuanian jazz unit, is known for its fusion of melody and muscle, captivating audiences with their progressive European jazz.
  • Arahí Latin Quintet, led by Arahí Martínez, performs Latin Jazz with a repertoire of Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Spanish songs.
  • Kids Band Sedajazz, a children’s ensemble, explores New Orleans and Dixieland jazz styles, embodying curiosity and enthusiasm for jazz.
  • La Plena 79, a salsa orchestra, presents original compositions and classic hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s, with a social message.
  • Valmuz, an eclectic band, blends jazz, rock, and experimental fusions, bridging a global perspective to their music.
  • Le Dancing Pepa Swing Band offers powerful songs and arrangements reminiscent of 1930s Harlem ballrooms.
  • Joan Soler, a renowned Spanish jazz guitarist, has a rich career spanning over 40 years.
  • Kenny Garrett, a Grammy-winning saxophonist, is celebrated for his distinctive sound and musical collaborations.
  • Kurt Elling, a two-time Grammy-winning jazz vocalist, is praised for his poetic insight.
  • And finally Monty Alexander, hailing from Jamaica, draws inspiration from jazz and Jamaican popular music, influenced by pianist Nat “King” Cole.
