The Cultujazz association continues to solidify its position as a key venue for contemporary jazz in Valencia, championing emerging talent and projects with a distinctive identity. This time, the Cultujazz venue will host a concert by the Guillem Cotanda Quartet, a group that powerfully represents the new generation of Valencian jazz musicians.
Guillem Cotanda stands out for his sophisticated improvisational style, in which lyricism and musical depth coexist naturally. Despite his youth, he has a solid track record in local clubs and on national and international stages, having been part of projects such as the Jove Big Band Sedajazz and the Young Septet Sedajazz.
Last year, he was also one of the featured artists in the traditional Christmas concert “The Kids Are Alright,” organized by renowned saxophonist Perico Sambeat. Among his most outstanding achievements is the First Prize at the Talavera de la Reina International Competition for Young Jazz Musicians, won with the aforementioned septet, a group in which Cotanda assumes a clear role of artistic leadership. This project has allowed him to delve deeper into the study and interpretation of great jazz composers, such as Oliver Nelson, an influence perceptible in his approach to group music.
The concert will feature the collaboration of three highly promising musicians: Xavi Maldonado on tenor saxophone, Pau Montal on drums, and a special appearance by bassist DeeJay Foster, a well-established figure in the national jazz scene.
The Guillem Cotanda Quartet offers a contemporary jazz session based on musical dialogue and shared energy, reaffirming Valencia as a fertile ground for new voices in the genre.
