Forming a part of the cycle ‘A la llum de la luna’ (By the light of the moon), Valencia’s monastery, San Miguel de los Reyes, will host five free concerts across May and June. Live music will be played under the moonlight at this historic space on the first four Fridays of these two months. Seeking to unite contemporary music with the knowledge of our historical heritage, this cultural project began in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Three years later, ‘A la llum de la luna’ has become a staple in any music lover’s calendar and the monastery has consolidated itself as a first-class cultural stage.
The concert series provides an eclectic array of music bringing together promising young Valencian artists with those of more than twenty years’ experience. Six artists make up this year’s programme including Víctor Manuel, Xoel López, Sandra Monfort, La María, Quique González and Mastodonte. Xoel López inaugurates the festival on Friday, 5th May with music that is representative of the Latin American music scene.
All this is within the framework of a historical monument with excellent acoustics and visibility. In an attempt to bring culture closer to society, the General Director of Culture and Heritage Carmen Amoraga has stressed the importance of making this heritage space available to the public. In the past, countless historic buildings have hosted live music concerts demonstrating the power that live music and architecture can evoke together.
Tickets for these spectacular concerts are already available via the website below and are distributed on a first come, first served basis. So, don’t sit on this one! Doors will open for all the concerts at 20:30h and the performances will begin at 22:00h.
