On Saturday the 26th of November, Palau de Les Arts (Valencia) will host the jazz diva in a concert where she will perform a selection of her best songs. Gardot will be accompanied by the Brazilian pianist Philippe Powell, with whom she has worked on her latest album ‘Entre eux deux’ (2022). Palau de Les Arts  will welcome Melody Gardot, considered by music critics to be the ‘queen of jazz’ today, in concert. The New Jersey-born singer and composer will perform a selection of her best songs in the Auditori at 8 pm.

The American singer will be accompanied by Brazilian pianist Philippe Powell, with whom the jazz diva has composed the first collaborative album of her career, ‘Entre eux deux’, released on the 20th of May. They will also be accompanied by bassist Christopher Thomas and Jorge Bezzerra on percussion in this evening at Les Arts dedicated to jazz.

Behind her diva-like appearance and under her eternal sunglasses, whether by day or by night, lies a whole story of self-improvement. Gardot, who had begun singing cover songs in small venues at the age of 16, was forced to curb her career after a car accident left her with brain damage and memory loss.

Music therapy, of which she has become an ambassador, was key to her recovery, and, as a result, she was able to regain the ability to sing, prompting her to pursue her dream and write her own music.

The blending of different musical genres is something that is part of Gardot’s DNA. This fusion is something that has marked her professional career from her first album, ‘Worrisome Heart’, in 2008, to the present day. In her albums, the influences of rhythm and blues, funk, soul and even Latin rhythms such as bossa nova are clearly noticeable.

Les Arts és Altres músiques’ (The Arts is Other Music)

The Palau de les Arts opens its spaces and programme to new audiences with the cycle ‘Les Arts és Altres músiques’, in which different musical genres such as jazz, fado or contemporary pop converge, with the help of the main stars of the moment.

The next artist to take part in the series is the Grammy-nominated Rufus Wainwright, who, on his world tour with ‘Unfollow the rules’, comes to Valencia on the 19th of April with a repertoire of classic pop songs.
