The exhibition focuses on the interesting origins of the current Levante UD football team, unknown to a large part of the population. It is the product of the merger of Gimnástico FC, linked to the Workers’ Youth Board, and the Levante Futbol club, which became the Levante-Gimnástico Sports Union (UDLG), and then its rapid transformation into Levante UD. The exhibition shows the reasons that led to the creation of this new team and the social problems that it raised too.
The phases are as follows:
1909-1939. Foundation and trajectories of Gimnástico FC and Levante FC.
1939. Unification and foundation of the Levante-Gimnástico Sports Union (UDLG).
1941-1942. Adoption of the name Levante UD.
1942-1964. First promotion to First Division.
Topics looked at include: the social and political reality of maritime towns at that time. That Catholic unionism and and also Catholic circles were created to counteract the influence of class unions is also discussed. Specifically, it focuses on the Workers’ Youth Board, the reasons for the forced merger, the problems of the players and the “dance” of symbology: colours, shields, kits and so on.
