Chef Carito Lourenço demonstrated a live cooking show, creating a delicious dessert using only fair trade Tierra Madre Oxfam Intermón products at Alcampo.
In order to celebrate fair trade fortnight taking place between the 1st and the 15th of May, Alcampo supermarket was joined by chef Carito Lourenço of Fierro restaurant for a live cooking demonstration, showing how to make an impressive dessert made entirely with fair trade products, from Oxfam Intermón’s ‘Tierra Madre’ line. Throughout this special fortnight, all 332 Alcampo stores across Spain will be promoting 22 fair trade products.
The audience was welcomed by the director of the Alcampo Aldaia store, Alfonso Bermejo, and Oxfam Intermón’s fair trade sales manager, Marie Fonsale, who introduced the live cooking demonstration, explaining the importance of the collaboration between Oxfam Intermón and supermarket stores such as Alcampo. The partnership between the two helps raise awareness about the advantages that fair trade brings to producers in Latin America, Africa and Asia, including equality between men and women and improving their working conditions. Oxfam Intermón works towards reducing social and economic inequalities in the world every day, with their tagline “Equality is the future.”
To create this dessert, Michelin star chef Carito used a range of Tierra Madre products, including Bio Tierra Madre spiced chai tea, freeze-dried Arabica Bio Mount Hagen coffee, fine grain panela, white chocolate with sugar cane and cacao powder. After the bizcocho dessert came together at the end with a coffee and white chocolate base, the audience were able to taste the final product. The high-quality ingredients and Carito’s passion for cooking was evident in the flavour.
Fonsale explained, “As consumers, we have the power to choose. If you want a fairer world, opt for Tierra Madre products from Oxfam Intermón.” These products symbolise opportunities and fairness; Carito was able to show us first-hand how simple it can be to create a delicious dessert using these amazing products that are good for those who consume them, for those who produce them, and for the planet.
