SAVOUR  QUALITY CUISINE BY THE BEACH AT ‘LA MAR’

The beach is also for the autumn: this is how to enjoy the family gastronomic experience at ‘La Mar.’ Although summer is over, the beach and the promenade continue to offer culinary and cultural proposals to enjoy all year round. Autumn is greeting us. Although the long days and hot nights have come to an end, Valencia is fortunate to have a pleasant climate and a wide range of plans throughout the year. There are cultural, artistic, sporting and, above all, gastronomic options. Options that can be enjoyed on the beach of Las Arenas and its surroundings, either with the family, with friends or even on your own. This is where, a few months ago, La Mar (Paseo de Neptuno, 36), the Portolito Group’s latest opening in the city, dropped anchor. During this time, hundreds of diners have come aboard to savour its menu inspired by the breeze, the sea, ‘la huerta’ and the embers of well-grilled quality meat dishes. Now that the seafront seems to be relaxing, the restaurant offers a gastronomic experience for the whole family.

Back to the roots

Not only through cuisine, but also via culture and history. These are the ingredients of the Cabanyal neighbourhood, one of the favourite options when it comes to spending a morning with the family. With its fishermen’s houses, its colourful façades, its traditional municipal market and its Teatre El Musical. There, time stands still and life is expericenced in a different way.

A little further on, the port invites you to enjoy some live nautical activities, music in the ‘Veles e Vents’ and exhibitions in the Clock Building. However, there are those who prefer playing volleyball on the sand or skate with the youngest members of the family. Afterwards, it’s time sit down at ‘La Mar’ and savour recipes such as…

⚓️ The seasonal fish ceviche with pomegranate tiger’s milk to whet your appetite. This also has a vegetarian option.

⚓️ As a main course, the whole grilled gilt-head bream (700 grams approximately) or the Iberian acorn-fed pork with garnish. The menu is complemented by a careful selection of rice dishes: arroz del senyoret with seasonal fish, cuttlefish and prawns from Vinaròs or the traditional Valencian paella.

⚓️ To finish with desserts such as the Chocolate Garden, which contains ganache, carob earth, white chocolate sponge cake and creamy EVOO ice cream.

In short, a Mediterranean menu – with a vegetarian offer – in which market and local produce is at the centre of everything. The kitchen and dining room teams are in charge of making the Portolito Group’s most personal and delicate bet a reality.

A family experience

In addition to the à la carte menu, La Mar has several menus: the daily menu, the La Mar special menu, its vegetarian option and a children’s menu. The daily menu (25,90 € per person) is available from 12:30h to 16:30h and features a wide range of dishes from the restaurant’s menu. The La Mar menu (28 € per person) is served at a full table and is designed for sharing. Its vegetarian option includes dishes such as tomato tartar and pickles or cauliflower with seaweed titaine. Finally, the children’s menu (€14.90) is designed so that families can enjoy a complete gastronomic experience.

“We want La Mar to be one more plan in the diaries of Valencian families. This is a place for all ages, where you can escape from the daily routine while enjoying a privileged environment,” says Manu Ragull, CEO of Grupo Portolito.

After the coffee and with the sunset, the plans follow one after the other. In La Mutant, for example, there are several festivals going on and different live arts shows. If you prefer peace and quiet, the promenade is another recommended option. The route, which can be done on foot or by bicycle, runs along the city’s main urban beaches: Las Arenas, La Malvarrosa and La Patacona. To finish with beautiful views of the sunset from La Marina and its wide esplanade.

This agenda of family plans can be reversed, as La Mar is open at midday, but also in the afternoon and evening. Through its large windows -which connect directly with Portolito Playa, its big brother-, an orange light penetrates the room and turns it into a tasteful postcard. On 4 October at 20:30h, the room will also host the gastrosensory experience ‘El sabor de los recuerdos’, a blind dinner with a secret six-course menu and a tasting of three wines from Bodegas Vicente Gandía (€40 per person). A journey into new flavours and familiar aromas.

About La Mar

Last July, ‘La Mar’ joined the different establishments that the Valencian gastronomic group already owns in the province: Portolito Playa in Playa de las Arenas, Portolito Centro in the heart of the city, Portolito Carmen in the emblematic neighbourhood of El Carmen and Portolito Diabola in Diabola Market (La Eliana). All of them pay homage to the sea, the land and their roots. In short, to the place where they were born: the Mediterranean.
