The vibrant SUMA Fixed Bank Mediterranean League is set to make a splash in Alicante this coming Sunday, March 3, with its 6th Regatta of the current season taking place at the port facilities of the Costa Blanca’s capital. This event, crucial for the overall standings, is proudly hosted by the Real Club Regatas de Alicante, in a collaborative effort with the Valencian Community Rowing Federation and bolstered by financial backing from SUMA Tax Management. Marking the sixth out of ten planned events, by the end of Sunday, participants will have surpassed the halfway mark in one of the nation’s most esteemed regional rowing contests.
Set within the Alicante Port, the competition unfolds between the Puente and Levante docks, a locale shielded from the sea’s whims. This natural protection offers a reprieve from potential weather-related challenges, providing spectators with an expansive vantage point from which to witness the action.
Around 650 athletes are expected to participate, navigating the waters in the Falucho Llaüt Valencià vessels, a hallmark of Levante rowing and a staple across the SUMA League. The race distances will vary by category, with the youth, cadet, veteran, and SCM (Breast Cancer Survivors) divisions covering 700 metres and making one turn. In contrast, the junior and senior divisions will tackle a more demanding 1,400 meters, including three buoy turns.
The day’s events kick off bright and early on the 3rd, with activities planned throughout the morning at the Alicante Port. The veteran’s category, always a crowd-pleaser, boasts 26 teams and over 230 rowers, making it the day’s largest group. The senior division is not far behind, with twenty teams ready to compete, marking it as the regatta’s second-largest category.
The nineteen clubs participating in the 4th Regatta of the SUMA Fixed Bank League of the Mediterranean are Secció Esportiva Universitat d’Alacant, Club Náutico Alicante Costa Blanca, Club Náutico Campello, Club Náutico Santa Pola, Club Náutico Benidorm, Club Náutico Jávea, Club Náutico Altea, Club de Remo Ciudad de Valencia, Club Rem Cía Gandía, Club Rem Denia, Real Club Náutico Calpe, Real Club Náutico Valencia, Real Club Náutico Gandía, Real Club Náutico Denia, Real Club Regatas Alicante, Club Remo Torrevieja, Real Club Náutico Torrevieja, Club Deportivo de Mar Clot de L’Illot El Campello, and Club de Remo Cartago Boga-Santa Lucía.
