Santa Pola was the scene, last weekend, of the II Autonomous Championship of Beach Sprint 2023, organised by the Rowing Federation of the Valencian Community together with the Club Náutico Santa Pola. A hundred athletes, belonging to eight different clubs from the Levantine coast, came together in an event that took place in a knockout format. On Saturday 19th (August) the preliminary rounds and some decisive heats were held and Sunday 20th was reserved for the majority of the finals. The weather conditions were good and the public was able to enjoy the spectacle of the show.
The Beach Sprint is a modality that follows a straight line course, in which single and double boats take part. The course for the four participating categories, cadets, juniors, seniors and veterans, was the same, 500 metres. It is a fast event in which the athletes have no time to rest. Everyone responded with a high competitive and sporting level and Santa Pola witnessed a very exciting and intense regatta. All categories featured female, male and mixed modalities.
The category victories were shared between two clubs: Club Remo Torrevieja (3) and Real Club Regatas Alicante (2). The Alicante team repeated with a triumph in the junior age group, which was led by the representatives of the host club, Club Náutico Santa Pola, who obtained two victories. A gold medal was also won by one of the teams from Real Club Náutico Torrevieja.
Real Club Regatas de Alicante continued with their good results thanks to two wins in the veterans group, where a representative of Club Deportivo de Mar Clot de L’Illot El Campello also won. In the absolute category, the El Campello team added another victory, while the other two were achieved by Club Remo Torrevieja. In this way, the clubs from Salinas and Alicante were confirmed as the big winners of the day, with five gold medals for each of them.
This second edition of the Autonomous Championship of Beach Sprint is the prelude to the national championship of this modality, which will take place on Saturday 26 August in Torrevieja. The clubs of the Valencian regional federation go to the national event with a high level of preparation and the guarantee that they have a good chance of success.
