Santa Pola will host the Suma Beach Sprint 2025 Regional Championship on Saturday, July 26th, and Sunday, July 27th. This sporting event is organised by the Rowing Federation of the Valencian Community and the Santa Pola Nautical Club, with sponsorship from Suma Gestión Tributaria.
Around 100 rowers from seven clubs across the region will compete over two days. The event will also serve as preparation for the Spanish Beach Sprint Championship, scheduled for the first week of September.
Now in its fourth edition, the regional championship focuses on a distinctive rowing discipline: the Beach Sprint. This high-intensity competition combines running and rowing. Competitors start and finish on the beach, with a 500-metre open water course that is the standard distance for all categories.
The event will feature races in cadet, youth, senior, and master’s categories, with male, female, and mixed divisions. Both individual (C1X) and double (C2X) events are included, with a total of 103 boats set to race!
Racing will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with sessions in both the morning and afternoon. On Sunday, competition will take place only in the morning. The format is elimination-based, with qualifying rounds and finals where crews will battle for medals.
The course will be set up on the first section of Gran Playa, near the breakwater of the Santa Pola Nautical Club. Rowers will start on the sand, navigate around three buoys, and return to the starting point. Spectators can enjoy views of the races from various vantage points along the beach and harbour.
Participating clubs will include Club Deportivo de Mar Clot de L’Illot El Campello, Club Náutico Alicante Costa Blanca, Club Náutico Santa Pola, Real Club Náutico Torrevieja, Real Club Náutico Calpe, and Real Club Regatas Alicante.
