‘THE DISTANCE BETWEEN HOMES’ is a short documentary by Valencia-based filmmaker and creator Antoanetta Now, following Adam and Gabby Gonzalez, an American couple who left California with their family to build a new life in Valencia. A year later, returning to California complicates the familiar story of moving abroad. They did not leave a bad life. They left a beautiful one.Moving between Valencia and California, the film looks beyond cost of living and lifestyle to explore the hidden emotional cost of building a life abroad: parents who remain behind, friendships built over decades, family obligations that cross oceans, and the question of whether two places can feel like home at the same time. Rather than asking whether Spain is “better,” The Distance Between Homes asks what it means to choose one life without making the other one false.
