The exhibition, which brings together her latest works in oil and acrylic, moves from her intimate early still lifes to large-format works such as Besalú and El Salto. Valencia, 4 November 2026 – «Sutilezas», the long-awaited artistic proposal by Isabel Marqués, is now on view at ‘Las Cervezas del Mercado’ and marks a further step in the solid career of the Valencian artist, following her recent presence in national and international art circuits. “A single brushstroke has the power to contain an entire world of subtleties,” the artist says of the concept that gives the whole collection its name and unity, and which she defines as a “sweep of paint.”
The exhibition revolves around a meticulous record of brushstrokes that define the artist’s mature painterly language and current aesthetic. Through a technique of her own, the “sweep of paint,” Marqués manages to capture an explosion of sensations through the subtle nuances of colour and the delicacy of her softly blended details. In this project, visitors will discover a carefully curated collection made up mainly of still lifes that reflect Marqués’s first traces and inspirations on canvas. The exhibition does, however, surprise with the artist’s decisive leap into large formats, embodied in two key pieces on display in the gallery: the work titled Besalú and the evocative El Salto.
The artist’s background and influences
Isabel Marqués (Valencia, 1968) has a rich international training that began in 1992 at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués in Paris, where she graduated in Fine Arts, Fashion Styling and Design. During her time in France, she took part in creating haute couture collections for renowned houses such as Christian Lacroix, and ready-to-wear collections for Cacharel, a textile and figurative experience whose influence, expressiveness and savoir-faire are clearly visible in her contemporary painterly production.
Back in her hometown, she deepened her command of oil and acrylic techniques at the Escuelas de Artesanos. Throughout her career she has received significant recognition, including the selection of two of her pieces for the prestigious Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 2015, the First Prize in Painting at the Escuelas de Artesanos competition in 2025, and her acclaimed participation in the international Art Shopping Paris fair at the Carrousel du Louvre.
The exhibition «Sutilezas» will be an essential date on Valencia’s cultural calendar, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the chromatic sensitivity and technical skill of one of the local painters with the greatest promise.
