‘THE HOT NOTES’ SET ‘BURNING HOUSE CABANYAL’ ALIGHT WITH IRRESISTIBLE JAZZ ENERGY!

On 23 January 2026, the warm and welcoming ‘Burning House Cabanyal’ was transformed into a pulsating jazz club steeped in rhythm, groove, and pure joy as The Hot Notes took the stage. Led by trumpeter and vocalist Guillermo Valero, the band delivered a great concert: it was a joyful musical experience that blurred the line between audience and performers from the very first note!

Rooted in New Orleans jazz but fearlessly expansive, The Hot Notes’ sound flows effortlessly through swing, blues, funk, and vibrant Latin rhythms such as calypso and boogaloo. The result is jazz that invites movement—jazz to dance to, even if you don’t know how.

Improvisation sits at the heart of the band’s identity, and throughout the night the constant musical dialogue between musicians and crowd created an atmosphere of shared celebration.
The band’s tight yet playful lineup proved to be a perfect vehicle for this dynamic approach: Guillermo Valero on trumpet and vocals led with charisma and warmth, balancing expressive solos with engaging vocals. David Romero added depth and colour on saxophone and clarinet, while David Sam’s piano playing anchored the harmonies with power and swing. The rhythm section—Edu Olmedo on drums and Carlos Picó on double bass—was relentlessly propulsive, locking in grooves that kept feet tapping and bodies moving all night long.
The setlist was a joyful journey through jazz history and beyond, featuring classics such as “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Sweet Sue, Just You,” and “I’ll See You In My Dreams,” alongside infectious crowd-pleasers like “Mama Don’t Allow” and “When I Die You Better Second Line.” Highlights also included “Black Note Strut” and “Mind Is on Vacation,” which showcased the band’s knack for blending tradition with modern flair.
Notably, the evening also offered an exciting preview of new material from their forthcoming album, soon to be released on Sedajazz Records. These newer tracks sat comfortably alongside the standards, signalling a band deeply respectful of jazz tradition while confidently carving out its own voice.
By the final notes of “Once in a While,” it was clear that The Hot Notes had achieved something special. They didn’t just play to the room—they lifted it, filled it, and set it in motion. At ‘Burning House Cabanyal’, jazz wasn’t a museum piece or a background soundtrack; it was alive, communal, and fun too! Keep your eyes peeled for more concerts by ‘The Hot Notes’ in Valencia soon!
