The nocturnal event will include musical activities and exhibition viewings until midnight! IVAM, CCCC, and MuBAV (Museum of Fine Arts) celebrate the ‘Gran Nit de Juliol’ this Saturday, the 19th of June, with a summer carnival-style tour featuring Valencian Traditions. In honour of the festivities, the three centres are extending their opening hours until midnight, offering free admission and a wide range of cultural experiences for all audiences.
“Traditions Come Out at Night” is brought to festivity-goers by the BajoTeja Platform, which will unveil its magic at the Museum of Fine Arts at 20:00h, filling the streets with vibrancy, music and pop culture. Participants, equipped with headphones, will take a sound tour featuring references to popular Valencian traditions, such as the human towers of the “muixeranga”, the ringing of bells, street festivals, and the street performance of “correfocs” (fire runs) with its dances of demons and fantastic figures.
The first part of the tour, which combines scenic art with artistic experimentation, will finish at the Centre del Carme with a horchata toast and a mix of traditional music of the tabal and the dulciana with the performance of the dance group El Faldellí and the Ateliers d’Artistes group. Following this, the second part will guide guests to the IVAM to the rhythm of a mobile disco, a common tradition of the Valencian “pueblos”- towns.
Have you got your dancing shoes? The pilgrimage will culminate in the IVAM hall with a closing party by DJ Biano, who will offer the audience a session of electronic music, with nods to traditional music, without abandoning rhythms of trap, kuduro, dancehall, techno, bacalao or Eurodance.
You’re going to need a lie-in after this plethora of activities and expositions! To mark the “Gran Nit de Juliol”, the three art venues have prepared a comprehensive programme of activities for all audiences, including guided tours of the exhibitions at night. No need to fill up on carrots; the exhibitions will be beautifully lit in true Valencian fashion, warm and inviting, and sure to keep you informed and entertained.
The IVAM will kick off the afternoon with family activities, including a dance workshop for children ages 2 to 6 and a visit to the “That’s Not a Comic!” exhibition, aimed at young children. The public will also be able to visit the exhibitions “Senga Nengudi and Maren Hassinger” and “Soledad Sevilla,” and explore the medieval wall located in one of the museum’s galleries, guided by archaeologist José Ferrandis, who oversees its restoration.
The Museu de Belles Arts will feature a musical performance by The Chalmers starting at 20:00h. This electric combo combines the experience of many of its members, from award-winning Valencian groups, with the passion for offering an original musical offering with a diverse and heterogeneous base. We’ll find songs by artists as diverse as Kiko Veneno, The Beatles, and Edith Piaf, filtered through a common sound and a broad interpretation, bringing the common thread of the songbook to eclectic and disparate rhythms.
The Museum of Fine Arts will also extend its opening hours until midnight, both for the permanent collection and for the current temporary exhibitions: “Santiago Ydáñez. Villa di Livia” and “Pedro Orrente. An Itinerant Artist in Golden Age Spain.”
From 21:00h to 23:00h, in the Renaissance cloister of the Centre del Carme, the Valencian DJ and producer, MarcSoul, specialized in Deep House and Liquid Drum and Bass, will be in charge of creating a soft, melodic and enveloping atmosphere with his live performance to accompany the public on their visit to the latest exhibitions inaugurated at the Centre del Carme dedicated to illustration ’37 illustrious x 37 illustrated’ and to Valencian urban art ‘Principles.
Starting at 21:15h, when the BajoTeja-guided pilgrimage arrives at the CCCC, the public will be able to immerse themselves in the roots of traditional Valencian music and dance, with the mediation of this group and a free horchata and fartons tasting!
The Gothic cloister will then host a performance by the dance group El Faldellí and the Ateliers d’Artistes group, a show that highlights the recovery and maintenance of Valencian traditions through the music of the tabal and the dolçaina, the most ancient dances, and the attire of the different regions.
This amalgamation of events is a must-attend this Saturday. Get your dance moves ready and savour the flavour of Valencia across a variety of beautiful locations and discover the local customs of País Valencià!
