TRILOG at Burning House Cabanyal – Concert Report

On Friday 16 January, ‘Burning House Cabanyal’ hosted an intimate and compelling performance by TRILOG, a trio of virtuosos whose music moves fluidly between flamenco, jazz, and Indian classical traditions. In the warm, close-knit atmosphere of the venue, the group presented a concert that felt less like a fixed programme and more like a living ‘musical conversation’. It was an impressive show to a packed house and intrigued public. This is beautiful & intricate instrumental music that really ‘speaks’ to an audience.

Formed by flautist and bansuri player Lara Wong, flamenco guitarist Melón Jiménez, and tabla percussionist Chaitanya Natu, TRILOG embodies a truly transnational dialogue. Their sound draws on deep-rooted traditions while remaining open, exploratory, and spontaneous. Throughout the concert, the trio navigated a wide range of rhythmic cycles, moods, and textures, seamlessly blending flamenco forms with Hindustani rhythmic language and jazz-inspired improvisation.

Melón Jiménez’s guitar playing anchored the performance, combining authority and sensitivity, while Lara Wong moved effortlessly between flute and bansuri, her phrasing lyrical and expressive, often acting as a bridge between musical worlds. Chaitanya Natu’s tabla brought both precision and elasticity, expanding the rhythmic palette and creating moments of striking interplay with the guitar and flute. Together, the musicians demonstrated a remarkable level of listening and mutual trust, allowing space for both intensity and restraint.

Rather than presenting a rigid set structure, the concert unfolded organically, with sections flowing into one another and evolving through improvisation. The audience was taken on a journey that evoked the nomadic spirit at the heart of the project—tracing imagined routes from India to the Mediterranean, and back again. Moments of virtuosic energy were balanced by quieter, more reflective passages, keeping the audience engaged throughout. This a band of master musicians with something to say.

Despite being a fairly new project, TRILOG performed with the confidence and cohesion of a long-established group. Their appearance at ‘Burning House Cabanyal’ confirmed their growing reputation as a distinctive voice in contemporary flamenco fusion. The concert closed to a very enthusiastic response and a standing ovation, leaving the audience with a strong sense of having witnessed something both rooted and forward-looking, intimate yet expansive.

With a debut album planned for 2026 (being recorded in Valencia) and further touring ahead, TRILOG’s performance in Valencia felt like an important step in the unfolding story of a trio whose musical journey is only just beginning.
