’24/7 VALENCIA’ PEOPLE… REMEMBERING PILAR OF ‘RUZAFA’

#Pilar was born in Mexico City in 1941 and passed away, in Valencia, over a year ago. She was the daughter of Spanish immigrants, a Valenciana called Maria and an Asturian called Celestine.

As an adult, Pilar married Elias Cuervo and they had 5 children together.

After the trauma of losing one of their children, the family moved from Mexico to Valencia in 1972.

Outgoing, positive, generous, diplomatic and gifted… Pilar loved cooking. Her cuisine had Spanish roots as well as the deep love for her Mexican upbringing. Many people enjoyed her warm welcome and tasty lunches and dinners at her home in Ruzafa.

Her daily routine included joyful trips to ‘Ruzafa market’, always dressed in her best and a smile on her face, visiting her favourite stands as she chose what ingredients to include for her cooking on any particular day.

She is much missed by her family and friends.

You will find this homage to Pilar next to ‘Ruzafa Market.’
