ST PATRICK’S…A TRUE TASTE OF IRELAND IN THE MIDDLE OF VALENCIA (EXCLUSIVE REPORT)

There is no scarcity of places to grab a drink in Valencia. There are restaurants where you can split a pitcher with friends, clubs where you can dance the night away accompanied by your favorite shots, and bars where you can nurse some drinks with friends long into the night. Among this plethora of options, one bar in particular stands out. St. Patrick’s Irish pub, located at 69 Gran Via del Marqués del Túria, is the perfect place that can match whatever vibe your group is bringing into it.

If you’re hoping to see the football match, there are plenty of seats and excited fans ready to welcome you to the audience. Looking to have a chill night and a chat with a good friend? Grab one of the couches that create little secluded spaces in the middle room. And, if you want to play any number of games, such as pool, ‘foosball’, and even Jenga, tables and chairs in different sections everywhere are available for you to play.

With low lighting, signs everywhere with Guinness, Jameson, and Irish family crests on them, St. Patrick’s setting is like a little taste of Ireland. The pub is the only one in Valencia that is still Irish-owned, so though we are 1,600 miles from Dublin, you can practically hear the old Irish folk music coming through the walls.

My friends and I have frequented St. Patty’s quite a bit in our time so far in Valencia. The music is always upbeat and fun, and the people we meet there are even better. My group and I love meeting people from all over the world, and for one reason or another, we always find them at St. Patty’s. In fact, St. Patrick’s holds a language exchange night each Monday at 8:30 pm, where all are encouraged to practice their English, Spanish, or other languages right there at the pub.

But that’s not the only weekly event they hold. The pub features a new theme every night of the week, and usually it’s some sort of game. Tuesday nights are game night, starting at 10 pm. Wednesday it’s the pub quiz, also at 10 pm. They give out two prizes on pub quiz night, one for whoever gets the most questions right and one for the funniest team name. When my friends and I played, we didn’t get the most questions right, but our team name was the funniest so we got a round of shots on the house. Lastly, Thursday is a weekly beer pong tournament at 10 pm.

My group’s first time ever in St. Patty’s happened to be a Thursday night, so naturally we were convinced to join the tournament. Round after round we played, and my team, only three of us, made it to the final round. The stakes were high, as the winning team would be given €20 of drinks on the house. Even though we didn’t win in the end, we became good friends with the winning team. They were visiting from Ireland, and kindly offered to buy us some drinks with their free €20 bar tab.

And that is just the atmosphere at St. Patrick’s. People from all over come and mingle at this spot right near the Turia gardens—I’ve met some from Ireland, the Netherlands, Finland, and maybe the most surprising, other students from a university 45 minutes from my own back in the States. Whether you’re a college student, a post-grad on a European vacation, or really anyone else, you’ll be able to find a crowd to enjoy at St. Patrick’s. Not to mention, if you are a university student with a school ID, you can ask for their student card, which gets you a euro off everything on weeknights.

Open until 3 am every night, St Patty’s is the perfect place to grab a drink and enjoy Ireland’s home away from home right here in Valencia. Give them a follow on Instagram and Facebook to learn more and get excited for each of their events.
